Summary:
Intermission: /ˌin(t)ərˈmiSH(ə)n/ noun, a pause or break
But Aizawa's job protecting these kids is never on a break.
And Dabi can't seem to relax during one, either.
Notes:
Sorry for the week that went by without a chapter. I had been on my week of nights and was just utterly destroyed energy-wise. This chapter is a bit shorter than the usual ones, but I wanted to make sure I got something out for you guys!
Time for the trial intermission! That means everything will be light and happy right? Right?😇
🚨🚨HEADS UP: I'm on a week of night shifts again this coming week. So there's another chance that I won't post this coming Sunday the 10th, but hey if I do manage it then it'll be a happy surprise! 🚨🚨

Chapter Text
It was a strange feeling, stepping out into the courtyard and feeling the midday sun shining down. There was a light breeze ruffling the leaves of the trees and bushes that decorated the small area.
How could the world keep going on like normal while the fate of these kids was being decided here and now?
Aizawa closed his eyes for a moment and took a deep breath. The morning had been nothing but pure tension. Not only had traumas needed to be revisited, but that bastard Shimizu kept finding new ways to tear open old wounds.
With a sigh, he opened his eyes and surveyed the courtyard.
Shoto, Fuyumi, and Natsuo were sitting together on one of the benches, but then Natsuo stood and moved to the side to give his seat to Rei. Rei gave him a gentle smile and took the seat, talking to her children in a hushed, calm voice.
Aizawa watched her carefully. While he could acknowledge the fact that she had been damaged by Endeavor, he also couldn't ignore the damage she'd contributed herself to her children–no matter how unintentional. But...she so clearly wanted to be better. She wanted to be there for them now. Aizawa could respect that. That didn't mean he wouldn't keep a close eye on her all the while.
He noticed Rei glance across the courtyard and followed her line of sight.
Dabi was seated on stone steps next to Keigo. Both of them looked blank. They were silent, with Dabi leaning on his knees with clasped hands and Keigo sitting uncomfortably straight. They were both staring off into nothing.
Aizawa frowned.
Moving forwards, Aizawa stood before them so that his shadow blocked the sunlight from hitting them. Both Dabi and Keigo seemed to snap out of their thoughts and looked up at him. Aizawa let out a low hum before speaking.
"Are you two doing okay?"
Dabi scowled and said nothing. Keigo gave a wry smile and shrugged. Aizawa almost winced because, yeah what had he been expecting them to say.
"Fair enough."
He didn't move, waiting to see if they'd say anything else. While Dabi averted his face and stayed quiet, Keigo looked like he might be about to say something before he clamped his mouth shut.
Aizawa waited. But Keigo let out a breath and looked down at his hands, staying silent.
"I can give you guys some space," Aizawa offered. "But promise to not let the bullshit that Shimizu has said over the past few hours ruin what we've found. You guys have each other. You have Eri. You have me. That's not going to change."
