Summary:
If someone had asked Dabi five years ago what it would take for his family to all be in the same room, he would've said "Endeavor's funeral."
Hopefully his mother's testimony can get them one step closer to that.
Metaphorically, of course.
Notes:
Really glad you guys are still liking the trial! Per my outline there's still...quite a bit of it left 😅
Back to Dabi's POV! I think he's by far the easiest/most fun POV for me to write from 💜🖤 And that's pretty evident by the fact that this chapter somehow ended up being 4012 words?? LOL I did not mean for it to be that long but here we are.
Rei's got a lot to say 👏😤
And Dabi's got a lot of feelings he doesn't know what to do with 🥺(See the end of the chapter for .)
Chapter Text
It felt like his teeth were going to crack as he clenched his jaw.
Not for the first time, Dabi wished he could just burn something. He needed to do something with the fucking feelings in his chest to make them go away. Arson usually did the trick, but he had a feeling Aizawa wouldn't appreciate that very much.
But the deep breathing exercises Aizawa did approve of were doing jack shit. He felt on the edge of exploding with every detail his siblings were forced to relive, ready to roast Shimizu alive every time the bastard spoke.
And now–
"The prosecution calls Rei Todoroki to the stand."
–he had to make a conscious effort to tame the vicious heat simmering under his skin.
Dabi forced himself to keep his eyes forward, fixated on the wood grain of the judges' stand.
He hadn't seen his mother since he'd snuck off to the hospital that day with Keigo. Back when Keigo had still been 'Hawks' to him. The day he'd learned his best friend's real name.
God, it felt like it had been years ago, yet he could remember every second of it. The look of shock on her face when she'd seen him. The vitriol he'd spat at her, and the way she took it like she deserved it. The way his heart betrayed him with happiness when he realized she still loved him.
Dabi growled out his next breath as he heard the courtroom doors open, the sound of approaching footsteps like gunshots in the silent room.
If Shimizu makes her cry–
He sent a caustic look towards the defendant's table, not flinching when he found Endeavor staring him down. He wanted to feel satisfied at the pure look of shock that was on the bastard's face, but it rapidly shifted into an expression Dabi knew well.
Endeavor was livid.
Dabi didn't back down from the daggers the man was shooting at him, instead leaning forward slightly and smirking.
It's what you get, bastard, Dabi thought viciously. If death couldn't keep me from coming for your head, what did you think a hospital would do?
Dabi's attention was pulled further to the side as movement caught his eye.
Rei Todoroki pushed open the gate from the gallery, pausing a moment to close it quietly behind her before moving forward. She sent a gentle look towards Dabi, stealing his breath for a moment before she turned back and made her way to the witness stand.

General Fiction"So," he said. "Do you want me to get you out of here?" She hesitated. "But...Overhaul..." "Is a bitch," Dabi finished. "I'll make sure he never lays a hand on you again." And that admission is what surprised Dabi the most. That he wasn't lying. Tha...
