(No One's POV)
"What just happened?" Omega looked up at Hunter curiously.
"Y/n has a... touchy backstory." Echo facepalmed, "it's kind of difficult to explain."
"But why'd she get so defensive like that?" Omega asked again, still looking at Hunter.
"Well kid, I think that's something you should ask Y/n yourself." Hunter said, trying to steer the conversation away from this topic.
"After all," Tech added, "we would rather that y/n give away the desired amount of information. We do not know how much information she wants to give away, and it would be a disservice to her to give away too much."
"Right," Omega said, knowing fully well that both herself and Wrecker were trying to process what Tech just said.
"However I wouldn't ask right now," Tech said, bringing his data pad back online.
"Why not?" Omega looked up at him.
He shifted his stance to something more comfortable, "because y/n has AirPods in."
Omega glanced over to see y/n putting AirPods in and playing music. She sat back and relaxed when she finished selecting her preferred playlist.
"Never try to talk to y/n when she has AirPods." Tech murmured, going back to the cockpit.
When Omega had opened her mouth to speak again, Hunter said, "we speak from personal experience. It's not a good experience. Just don't do it, trust our advice."
Omega nodded, "I can wait until she's comfortable."
"That's good kid, want to help me out?" Wrecker said enthusiastically.
"Are we thinking about the same thing?" Omega had a mischievous look on her face.
"Oh yeah!" Wrecker smiled, and both of them ran to the back of the ship.
Hunter and Echo walked into the cockpit to join Tech.
"Are they doing it again?" Tech asked with annoyance in his voice.
A loud crash came from the back of the ship.
Hunter Facepalmed, "of course they are."
"That'll be the third time this week that I have to fix that." Tech rolled his eyes, and took a seat in the pilot's chair.
Echo took his place beside him and sighed, "for now we can let them have their fun. Maybe it will cheer y/n up."
"Maybe," Hunter responded, standing in the doorway, quietly watching y/n relax.
*time skip*
(Standard POV)
It had been about an hour since the small incident with that explanation, but I could not help but feel that I knew that I would have to make another lengthy explanation. Omega would probably be wondering why I started acting the way I did, but I was not so sure that I would be able to explain it in a way that was friendly for children. I decided it would be better to take my headphones out, and try to be social again.
I decided to count until I was disturbed by Omega. I had only gotten to thirty before I noticed that she was starting to approach me.
"Y/n?" Omega finally asked me after a while, "what happened back there?"
I could practically sense Tech and Hunter giving each other looks.
"Well... it's a bit of a story, on that I'm not too comfortable talking about," I scratched the back of my head, "I have a long history about being treated poorly in life. Whether it was a relationship or family, I had it all. The usual main character shit. You know?"
"Language," I heard Hunter whisper from the other room.
"Is that like... what toxic is supposed to mean?" Omega asked scratching the top of her head, "you know. When the relationship with whomever is not fair?"
"Exactly like that," I responded, happy that I would not have to explain what that was supposed to mean.
"So he... they... you know... did the..." Omega clearly was either trying to think of the word, "abuse?"
I smiled sadly, "unfortunately, yes. That happened to me, multiple times, eventually I gave up on it, and started ignoring it. That's why... I act out sometimes... it's very strange, because it's in the far past now, it feels so long ago."
"Hmm... but we'd never do that to you, you know?" Omega looked at me with a smile, "we'd always treat you fairly. I don't understand why someone wouldn't."
I gave a short chuckle, "hmm. It's hard to understand how people would act. You never know what's going through their head all the time. And so know you would never do such things. I just need more time, I'm a very... slow to change person. Which is a blessing and a curse I guess."
Omega looked up at me happily, "so... you're good. Right?"
I laughed and gave her a hug, "I'm good."
We did not have a chance to have much of a moment, "sorry to interrupt this,.. thing that you're doing, but we're abouta land," Wrecker walked in on us.
I smiled at Omega, and nodded to Wrecker, "c'mon Omega, to the cockpit."
We made our way forward together, and we took our places. I stood by Tech's side, and Wrecker and Omega stood by Hunter. Echo was in the copilot seat so I was standing next to him.
He looked up at me and gave me an, 'are you feeling alright?' Glance. I gave him a smile, and nodded to him; satisfied with my answer, he turned back to what he was doing, leaving me hearing the quiet snickering of Omega and Wrecker.
It did not take us much longer to land and make our way to Cid's parlor. And, to be honest, I cannot say I trust this character yet. She hides too much, and gives away too little; ha, it is almost like me.
