"Booooorrrring..." I groaned, standing up in the cockpit, "where even are we?"
"Well," Tech pulled up a map, "take a look for yourself."
"You busy?" I looked at him curiously, "too busy for one of your usual rants apparently."
"I have found something that may need to be fixed on the ship," Tech concluded, "I would rather stay alive and explode in space."
I gave him a, 'that's fair,' nod.
Suddenly, there was a violent shaking, and alarms blaring.
"What the fu-..." I began, but Hunter but me off, "watch the language, and Tech, what the kriff?"
"It's not affecting life support," Tech settled into his seat, "we're fine."
"Are you kidding me?" Hunter looked at him.
"Strap in everyone," Hunter shouted, and moved to the other room.
I had almost sat down on the chair when the ship jerked, making me fly upwards.
"What are you doing? Get in your chair, and Tech, stop that shaking!" Hunter roared, strapping in.
I frowned at him, and sat down in the chair. I began pressing buttons to try to prevent a crash landing.
"Come on Tech," I nudged him playfully, "you can work your magic now..."
I held onto the chair to keep myself from bursting out the front window. Tech furiously pressed buttons before taking control manual of the ship.
"We're gonna die, we're gonna die, we're gonna..." Wrecker panicked in the other room, "we're gonna be fine... we're gonna be fine..."
He was probably talking to Omega right now.
"It appears to be a difficult landing..." I murmured, getting out of the copilot seat.
I jumped up, and braced myself against the ceiling. We landed with a violent jerk forward, and a massive downward skew.
I laughed, "hahaha we didn't explode!"
"Of course not," I heard Tech from the other room, "I was at the helm."
"And yet," I walked into the cockpit, "we're still alive."
"What happened?" Echo said sternly, walking into the cockpit, "Tech?"
"It appears part of the ship is damaged," he pulled up an image; "the capacitor has been damaged."
"Probably from our run in on Saleucami," I rubbed my chin thoughtfully, "we will need to replace it to fly again."
"Inventory analysis indicates there is one spare on board," Tech typed on a screen.
Omega hauled something, "is it in here?"
Crosshair's gear made a loud clank on the ground.
"What?" She looked at Hunter for support.
"That's... Crosshair's weapon kit..." Hunter murmured.
I sensed where this conversation had the potential to go, "let's just focus on the task at hand."
"Right," Hunter touched my shoulder, "let's replace that part and get off this rock."
I watched Tech start going through our things, I helped too, but I did not do as much as Echo did; and he has one hand!
I kept thinking about Crosshair; about what happened just a day or so ago. I kept thinking about how I could have prevented it; if I had been as loyal as a I promised to be. I made a promise to Fives, and I'm not about to break it with this squad. I am going to remember my mind magic, so I could possible stall the chip's progress. Maybe I would be able to destroy it without causing damage to the brain; with practice of course.
I would have to prepare it, so I will have to start today. I decided to seek a private corner, and I attuned with my magic. Establishing this ability will take time, and I will be weaker while this magic is in effect.
I hesitated, this kind of magic could get me killed, or other people, and it was really noticeable. Vial might be able to trace me, but he has not so far; and I have used a lot of magic the last couple weeks.
I continued with my deep thoughts until Tech brushed past me, "y/n?"
I turned quickly, almost knocking my elbow against the wall, "yeah?"
"Could you hand me my tool if you're just going to stand there?" He said without looking up from his data pad.
I scowled at him, and gave him a tool, "better?"
"Yes," he walked away to fix something, "thank you."
He lay down on the ground of the ship, and pulled himself under a council. He began fixing it with a few tools, and making loads of sparks while doing so. It took a lot of self control not to stare at him while he was fixing the ship.
I walked away calmly, and jumped up to a corner; there was a loose wire here.
"Where does this one go?" I asked aloud.
It took Tech a few seconds to answer, "upper right, there should be a black cord."
I nodded and connected the two wires; once that was done, I jumped down, and walked to the cockpit.
"Found it," I stooped down to pick up the capacitor, "it was underneath the dashboard."
Tech took it from me, got an oxygen mask, and left to go outside. I wanted to accompany him, but Echo took my place. I just continued to fix little things around the ship, and occasionally, I fixed a major mess in the back of the ship.
"That is finished," Tech walked back inside, "but we may have another problem."
Hunter and I were ten steps ahead of him; we both had already sensed something was wrong with the ship. We ran into the cockpit, and looked out the main window.
"Hunter...?" Omega gave us a nervous glance.
He frowned at the windshield, and I continued to stare; finally, something crawled across the front of the ship. A huge, scaly, reptile looking thing crawled away with the capacitor.
"That was the capacitor wasn't it?" I gave Tech an annoyed frown.
