I arrived at a café in the heart of the city where I often stops for a coffee before heading to work. I am seated by the window, reviewing some documents on my tablet when Seo Ye-ji walks in unexpectedly.
Ye-ji spotted me immediately, with a wide smile on her face.
"Well, if it isn’t my favorite lawyer! What a pleasant surprise, Soo-hyun!" She shouted.
Ugh! The morning headache is coming my way.
"Ye-ji... Hi. What brings you here?" I slowly glance up, pretending to look surprised to see her.
Ye-ji starts to sit down at my table without being invited.
"Oh, just in the area. I thought I’d grab a coffee. And look who I ran into! It must be fate, don’t you think?" She said with a wide smile on her face.
As if I will believe her.
"I suppose. How have you been?" I sajd forcing a smile on my face to make me look like not that impolite.
She's leaning forward, at me clearly showing her flirting.
"Busy, but never too busy to see you. We should catch up—maybe over dinner? I know this amazing new restaurant." She said, her voice a bit low.
"I’m actually swamped with work right now, Ye-ji. I’m not sure when I’ll have time." I said, glancing at my watch uncomfortably.
"You’re always working, Soo-hyun. You need to relax more! How about I help you with that? You know I’m a great company." she said, pouting.
Did she think she's cute? Cringe.
I was shifting on my seat feeling uncomfortable, and I said, "I appreciate the offer, but I’m really focused on some important cases at the moment."
I can sense Ye-ji brushing off my hesitation and said, "Well, a smart, successful man like you deserves a break. You work too hard. Let me take care of the plans. All you need to do is show up."
I looked at her firmly and said, "Ye-ji, I don’t want to give you the wrong impression. I’m not looking to date right now. My career is my priority."
"Oh, I understand. But who says we have to be serious? We could just have some fun, no strings attached." She said, smirking.
"Ye-ji, I think it’s best if we keep things professional. I respect you, but I’m not interested in anything beyond friendship." I replied, trying to be as clear as I could.
I look at Ye-ji, a flicker of disappointment, crosses her face, but she quickly masks it.
"Friendship? Sure, if that’s what you want... for now. But you know where to find me when you change your mind." She replied.
"I really need to get going. I’m late for a meeting. Take care, Ye-ji." I said, standing up.
I am so eager to leave.
