The evening following the impromptu matchmaking event at the rooftop bar. Me and Soo-hyun return home, I think, both of us feeling a mix of emotions as we reflect on the night.
Despite the fun and laughter, something has shifted between us, something we are both starting to become aware of but are unsure how to address.
The next day, I was at my office, sitting at my desk, trying to focus on my work, but my thoughts kept drifting back to the night before.
I catch myself smiling at the memory of Soo-hyun's easygoing nature, his laugh, and the way we just clicked during the game. I shake my head, trying to push the thoughts away.
'Why am I thinking about him so much? We've been friends for so long... but last night felt different.' I thought to myself since I can't just burst out my thoughts in my office with a lot of staff and employees just walking around the corner.
My phone buzzes, breaking my reverie.
It's a message from Soo-hyun:
KIM SOO-HYUN
Hey, Ji-won. I had a great time last night. How about lunch later?I feel my heart skip a beat at the message. I quickly type back, trying to sound casual.
Sure! Where do you want to go?
How about that new café near your office? I've heard good things about it.
Sounds perfect. See you at 1?
See you then!
A FEW HOURS LATER
I find myself walking to the café, my mind racing. I tell myself it's just lunch with a friend, but deep down, I know there's more to it.
When I arrive, I spot Soo-hyun already seated at a table by the window, looking relaxed and confident.
As I approached, he stood up to greet me with a warm smile.
"Hey, Ji-won. You look great." Soo-hyun said, smiling.
I smiled back, feeling a slight blush on my cheeks, "Thanks, Soo-hyun. You're looking pretty good yourself."
We sit down, and as we start to chat, there's an underlying tension between us-something unspoken but undeniable.
We talk about work, last night's event, and our friends, but every so often, there's a pause, a look, or a smile that lingers just a bit too long.
After a moment of silence, trying to ease the tension.
"Last night was fun, wasn't it? I never expected to participate in a matchmaking game." I said.
Soo-hyun chuckled, "Me neither. But I'm glad we did. It was nice to spend time with you... like that."
"Yeah, it was." I said softly.
