I stood at the window of my office, staring out at the bustling city below.

My mind, however, was far from the scene in front of me.

I tried to focus on the day's tasks, but a familiar unease gnawed at me.

Ji Chang-wook, a figure from my past, had reappeared in my life unexpectedly, stirring up emotions I thought Inhad long buried.

I sighed deeply, running a hand through my hair as I glanced at my phone.

Soo-hyun had texted me earlier, something sweet about our plans for the weekend, but now it felt distant, overshadowed by the thoughts racing through my mind.

Chang-wook’s return wasn’t just a casual reappearance.

It was laden with unspoken tension and, more troublingly, the pressure from my family.

My parents had always liked Chang-wook—his charm, his success, his impeccable manners.

He was the kind of person they’d always envisioned me with, long before Soo-hyun came into the picture.

And now, after all this time, Chang-wook was back.

It wasn’t that I had unresolved feelings for him; I didn’t.

My heart belonged to Soo-hyun, and I knew that with every fiber of my being.

But Chang-wook’s sudden return stirred up more than just old memories.

It reignited my family’s subtle, yet constant, pressure about my future.

And now, with my relationship with Soo-hyun becoming more serious, the timing couldn’t have been worse.

A soft knock at the door pulled me from my thoughts.

I turned to see my secretary, Na, poking her head in. “Sajangnim, you have a visitor. Mr. Ji Chang-wook. Should I tell him you’re busy?”

My heart skipped a beat.

I hadn’t expected him to come here, to my office of all places.

The weight in my chest grew heavier, but I forced a smile. “No, it’s fine. Send him in.”

As secretary Na disappeared, I straightened my blouse, took a deep breath, and braced myself.

The door opened, and there he was—Chang-wook, looking as polished and confident as ever.

His presence filled the room, just as it had years ago.

“Ji-won,” he said with a smile that was both familiar and unsettling. “It’s been too long.”

“Chang-wook,” I replied, trying to keep my voice steady. “It has.”

He stepped forward, his eyes scanning the room briefly before they settled back on me. “I’ve missed our conversations. You’ve built quite the career for yourself after I got to States for weeks.”
