𝐛𝐮𝐭 𝐧𝐨𝐭 𝐤𝐢𝐬𝐬

Chapter Three.

      

     THE NEXT DAY at school, Stevie arrived to school with a pair of sunglasses on and Romeo handed over a takeout cup of coffee. "Thank you," she says quietly before looking around. "Where's my girl?" She asked and he sighs. "She already headed off to class, said she'll see us at the assembly." He explains as they now walk side by side into their school. "Did you drink your water and take the Advil I left for you?" He asked the girl now.

"Yes." She grumbles as they enter the school. "Is Enya pissed at me? Be honest." She looks up at him and he just thinks about it. He had asked Enya if she was okay this morning, and all she did was walk out the front door of their house, loudly slamming it behind her. "No, nah, she's cool... cool as a cucumber."

And yet, in the gymnasium, Stevie waved her over but Enya just took her seat in the far back, her arms crossed. The assembly begins before Stevie can even go to her girlfriend, Principal Woods is up on the stage, at the podium as Romeo and Sasha stand side by side in the middle of the large stage.

"Being a school captain is a huge responsibility. It requires leadership, caring for other people. The very well-being of our students is in their whands. This year, we've had these two lovely candidates come forward. Well done, Sasha and Romeo." She says to the two who smile at the woman. "So I would like to encourage you all to be brave and throw your hat in the ring and give it a go. Sasha, why don't you go first and take us through your policies?" Principal Woods says and Sasha clears her throat.

"Thank you to our esteemed--" "wait!" Someone shouted, cutting off Sasha as everyone looked at Spider now. "I'm gonna run." He got up onto his chair. "Okay. Well done, Spencer, if you'd like to--" "do you feel forgotten..." Spider loudly says, holding up a bright neon pink dildo and Romeo grimaces, looking around the room.

"Unseen, left behind, or worse, do you feel... like you can't even breathe... for fear of getting canceled?" He jumps down from the chair in the front row and walked over to the stage, jumping up. "People like Sasha So and Romeo Castillo," he pointed the dildo towards the two and Sasha immediately smacks it away, "have made me feel like I'm responsible for all the world's problems for far too long now." Spider goes on, now facing the audience.

Romeo scoffs, "it's disrespectful." Sasha reached for the sex toy but he put it out of her reach. "And I'm sick of it. People can say what they want about me. But what you see is what you get." Spider says, glancing away from Sasha to look at Romeo who just furrows his brows at him. "So I say, it's time for us," Spider looks back at the crowd, "the canceled, to take back the power." He adds.

Scattered whoops come from the crowd, most likely other boys who are just like Spider. "It's time to be unapologetic about who we really are." A boo comes from the crowd. "So vote for me, Spencer White, if you want a real leader." He says and the crowd cheers and claps. "Okay, thank you so much, Spencer." Woodsy says and Romeo just rolls his eyes.

"I'm gonna run too." Amerie stood up. "Amerie." Principal Woods says as the girl makes her way over now, climbing up the stairs onto the stage and snatching the dildo from Spencer's hands. "Uh... um... I doubt many of you would want to vote for me right now. And I get it. I've let a lot of people down. Even in the last day, I think I've pissed off about 20 of you..." She says and Romeo goes over to Woods.

"Is this allowed? They missed sign up day." He pointed at Spencer and Amerie. "Is she allowed to do this?" Sasha came to his side as well but the principal just tells them to be quiet as Amerie goes on. "But I think that's what makes me the best candidate because I wanna be better. I want to make it up to you all and I will work five times harder than anyone else to do it. I will prove that I can be a good person. Plus who'd want these dickheads as school captain? They don't want this for you, they want it for themselves, for their own egos." Amerie goes on and Romeo just scoffs.

"So... vote one. Amerie Wadia. Hartley High's biggest fuck-up. Let me make it up to you." She said and then silence follows. Spider snatched back the sex toy from her hands and Quinni stood up, whooping for Amerie as Darren and Harper follows, standing up and clapping their hands for the girl. "Thank you, Amerie. Everybody, our four candidates for school captain of Hartley High." Principal Woods says now, gesturing to them as everyone claps their hands for the four students.

After it was over, Romeo looked at Spider with an annoyed face before he walked away, going down the stairs and walking over to Stevie who stands up, nodding softly. "Okay. Sasha was easy to beat, but now there's two other people." She says, as if it weren't the most obvious thing ever. "I hate Spider." He says, crossing his arms and she just softly nodded.

"And what was Amerie going on about? No one's gonna vote for her." He rambles and she glanced away, towards Enya leaving the gym. "Yeah, that--that's true. Hey, I'll see you later, okay?" She rushed off and he just stood there, watching her with a confused daze. Well, there goes his vice. "Hey. Good luck with your campaign, yeah?" He quickly looks over at Spider, giving him a cold stare. "You'll regret this, Spencer." He replied with but all the blond does is laugh at his words.

At home later that day, both Enya and Romeo are just pushing their food around on their plate as both Selena and Vivianne look at them with concerned gazes, then glance at one another. "So how was school?" Vivianne spoke first, looking at the two younger Castillos. "Amazing." Enya says in a monotone voice as Romeo just lets out a rough grunt.

"Spider is running for school captain. That's my thing." He said, gesturing to himself. "Well... mine and Sasha's." He sets down his hand and Selena just slowly nods. "The same Spider that left you a mess last term and over the holidays at abuela's?" She asked and Romeo just puts his head in his hands.

"He's doing it to piss me off." He says, sounding sure of it and Enya scoffs. "Or to stroke his own ego." She said as Selena and Vivianne look at her now. "What about you, lover girl? What's up with you?" Their aunt asked now and Enya sighs. "I told Stevie I was dropping SLT class now that it'll be elective. She thinks I'm just trying to get away from her..." She said and Romeo glanced over.

"Stevie's parents are, like, always away, out of the house, of course she's gonna think that." He tells the girl who looks at him, sighing. "But I don't want her to. I'm only dropping SLT because I need to focus on other classes, besides I don't have many free periods to spare like you guys." She said and he nods softly.

"She'll come around." He assured her then looked at their mom and aunt. "Now back to me." He tells them and Enya merely rolls her eyes at him, looking away. "How do I kill someone and make it seem like it was an accident?" He asked the two and Vivianne raised a finger, "Vi." Selena says and the younger of the two instantly looks down as the older looks over at Romeo. "If you're so sure that he's doing it to piss you off, then show him." Selena explains to him.

"Show him?" Romeo asked, confused. "Show him it doesn't. Show him who's boss. Show him you don't care." The woman advised, shrugging and Romeo just looks down, thinking about it. He always thought he acted that way towards Spider, but he truly does always show his reaction, annoyance, anger, whatever it was, Spider always knew he got under Romeo's skin.
