𝐛𝐮𝐭 𝐧𝐨𝐭 𝐤𝐢𝐬𝐬

Chapter Twenty-Two.

     

     MISSY AND ROMEO were on the dance floor, dancing together when the music gets interrupted by a microphone's loud squeak. "Oi, dickhead." The DJ says, angrily. "Sorry. I..." It's Spider and Missy nudged Romeo, the boy in front of her turning around. "I'm sorry. To all of you." Spider now tells the crowd who were all mad at the interruption of their music.

"What kind of CUMLORD prank is this?"

"I know that I've been a prick to pretty much every single one of you at some point. Especially those who don't deserve it." Spider said and Romeo glances at Missy to her side who's staring at the boy on stage with her brows furrowed. "Piss off, Spider!" Cash shouts. "I'm just-- I'm trying to fucking apologize, okay?" The blond exclaims.

The crowd just stared up at the boy on the stage, but the boy just stared directly at one person. Romeo. "I fucked up. And I'm not gonna make excuses. Uh, I'm gonna own it, and I know that you probably don't believe me, but I wanna be..." He took a short pause and Romeo frowns, "better." Spencer adds.

"And not because I expect anything from you. That's not what this is. I need to do this for myself. Because otherwise... look, I know you're probably never gonna want to speak to me again, and I completely understand why. I just... I hope that I can be worthy of your respect one day." He said and it's quiet for a moment, almost as if everyone was in shock.

He chuckles, "you're always telling me to shut the fuck up." He looks around the whole room now, finally tearing his eyes away from Romeo. "So, I think it's time that I actually did. Starting... now." He said then he dropped the mic, just as a girl came running in. "Oi! There's a bunch of Ned Kellys on the oval!" She shouted before she ran back out. "What?" The crowd collectively shout and run out the gymnasium. But Romeo stayed in his spot on the dance floor, staring at Spider who's staring at him.

He doesn't say anything, instead just turned around and went outside where everyone else was, to find Timothy was in front of all the orher Ned Kellys. "I said this is our last stand! We will not be silenced!" The man shouted. "You have overseen untold injustices on the males at Hartley High! And you have ruined their future opportunities and destroyed this school!" He goes on. "Right. Nothing to see here." Woodsy quickly spun around.

"Everybody back inside into our lovely formal, greatest night of our--" "even boys you thought were immune can fall prey to the relentless campaigns of the woke brigade." Mr. Voss now says, pointing his torch directly at Spider. Romeo glanced at the blond, seeing the reaction on his face. "Why are you still here? Come on." Principal Woods tells them.

"Okay. Let's not listen to CUMLORD of the Rings out here. Back inside." Miss Obah tells everyone who now heads back inside to the formal. The formal returns to normal, everyone dancing and singing along the music playing. Romeo was with Missy, Stevie and Enya, dancing with them when the lights shut off.

Everyone gasped loudly when they shut off, then begin screaming when they saw the fire appear at the side, by the wall. "Romeo! Come on!" Missy grabs his arm as he looked at the crowd. "But Spider--" "he'll be fine! Let's go!" Missy pulls him along, running after Stevie and Enya who both rushed out of the building. "You both okay?" Romeo asked them worriedly when they reached the grass, the two sitting down. "Yeah..." Enya says.

Once they were all outside, "I think this is the last." Woodsy tells Jojo before looking around. An explosion erupts from the building and frightened them all, screaming. "Where is Amerie and Harper?" Principal Woods shouted at the crowd. "Has anyone seen Amerie or Harper?" She now shouted at them.

"Or Rowan?"

Romeo looked around, in search of the blonde girl or the brunette, last remembering that he told Amerie about Malakai leaving. "Quinni! Quinni, get back here!" He looked over right away to see Quinni running into the building and Darren shouting for her, but Cash was holding them back from running after her.

After a while, Quinni finally came back outside, with Amerie, Harper and Rowan. The police, the ambulances and the firefighters had arrived at that point, tending to everyone. As Voss is getting arrested, Romeo is sitting with Enya and Stevie, both leaning against him, holding one another. "Hey... I'm gonna be right back." He says quietly, pulling back.

"Okay..." Enya says quietly, nodding. The two watch now as Romeo stood up and now slowly approached Spider. Just then, the music from inside the building had turned on, and Flame Trees began playing. "Hey." He said and Spider turned to him, so Romeo hesitantly extended out a slightly trembling hand to the blond. But Spider shows no hesitation in taking his hand, making him let out a big exhale.

He stepped closer to him and put his arms around Spider's neck. "I'm glad you're not dead." Romeo says and Spencer just pulls him closer. "I thought you would want me to be." He says and Romeo just softly shook his head. "Never." He said and Spider smiles at him. "Are you sure about this, Spider?" The Castillo now asks quietly and the White nods.

"Never been more sure about anything in my entire life... I meant it when I said it was never about basketball or me being experimental. It was always... something more to me." He said and literal sparkles appear in Romeo's eyes when he hears those words, making Spencer practically swoon at the sight, smiling at the Castillo. "Can I kiss you?" The shorter of the two boys now asks and the taller quickly nodded. Romeo leaned up, connecting their lips and Spider kisses back instantly.

No worries cross Romeo's mind at all, about what people would think, or say, because he's here, in Spider's arms, kissing him and dancing. Sure, it sort of took Spider having his senses slapped into him and their school building to burn down, to get them to this point. But Romeo's just thankful they got here at all, kissing and dancing. In front of everyone.

From where his sister and best friend stood with Missy, Stevie chuckles. "They're actually pretty cute..." She says, a wide smile on her face. "Told ya so." Enya said, her head on her girlfriend's shoulder. "They really are cute. I didn't see it at first... but it just makes sense." Missy says, tilting her head to the side. "Really happy for Romeo." She adds, smiling.

"So am I." Stevie says, smiling and glancing at Enya who sighs. "Been waiting so long for this one, honestly. Been rooting for them since the beginning." She says, nodding at the two and Missy just chuckles. "I can tell you read way too many books about enemies to lovers." She says and Enya hums, shrugging.

+ finally updating on time/early for today. :-) anywho last chapter got me feeling emotional, i'm gonna miss romeo + spider 🫶🏼
