"Josie!" Hope rushes to the groaning girl, assisting her to sit up. Josie clutches her right shoulder stinging with pain. Before either of the two girls could say anything a knock comes at the door, "Hope? Are you ok?" Josie's eyes widened hearing the voice, "Mom?" she whispers.
"Shit," Hope mumbled. After not getting a response Caroline spoke again, "I'm coming in," As the knob turns, Josie siphons from Hope, quickly muttering a spell, "Invisique,"
Just as the door opens Hope grabs the paper. A young girl doing a ritual with dark magic alone was the scene displayed in front of Caroline. "Hope," She paused, "Did you forget to lock the door?" Hope nodded, feeling Josie move away from her. The brunette silently walks out of Hope's room as her mom reminds Hope of the rules and punishments.
That same night in the gymnasium, the school pack gathers, "Bring me the new cub," Jed smirks at a terrified Raf, all attention turns to the boy, "As the Alpha, it is my duty to inform you of the rules," Jed's arms snake towards Raf's shoulders, "And there is a rule where newbies must tell their story,"
"Well, I never knew my pa-"
"Not that story," Jed pats Raf's shoulders hard, "The story of how you turned," The rest of the pack howls, "Who did you kill?" Raf's eyes were flooded by confusion and dread, no it couldn't be, "What?" Jed smiles at his confusion, "Oh you don't know?"
Jed comes face to face with him, his tall and muscular build intimidate the boy, "Werewolves look like humans until they kill. And once they do, the wolf curse gets triggered. I'm not gonna ask again. Who. Did. You. Kill?"
Raf's heart sank at the realization. "No. No. No!" Jed scoffs, "It's pack initiation boy. There is no other way," Raf shakes his head, tears streaming down his face as he keeps muttering the word no, over and over again. "Boy, you hav-"
"I didn't mean to kill her!" Raf cried out, "I'm sorry!" he fell to his knees, crying over and over again, the gymnasium was filled with his cries as the rest of the pack stayed silent. Compassion filled Jed, kneeling down to the boy, "What is it brother?"
"Cassie! I'm sorry!"
"Is Cassie a sister?" Jed asks, Raf shakes his head. "Friend?" Raf shakes his head again. "Girlfriend?" Raf nods, crying harder. Jed nods, "My condolences," Jed helps the sniffling boy stand up, looking around the pack, "Everyone, this is Raf. He is one of us now," Jed shouts, "His sadness is ours, as ours is his," The whole pack howls in solidarity for Raf's loss. "You're part of the pack now brother,"
The next day, Hope was called to one of the offices she dreaded entering; Emma's, as the school prepares for the football game. "No legacy is rich as honesty. If only Shakespeare knew what I know about teenagers. I'm sure there is someone out there who hasn't told a single lie in their life, but I've just never met any of them,"
"I see you've decided to double down on your nihilism this morning," Said Emma, scribbling something down in her notepad. "Trying to be rich with honesty," Hope remarked. "Start from the beginning,"
"Of my horrific existence? Sure! It started when my mom was hate-"
"Not that Hope," Emma interrupted, "Of your decision to perform black magic on school grounds last night," Hope scoffs, "Maybe we can table this until I catch the guy I was trying to track using black magic," Hope crosses her arms, "Because the longer that Landon Kirby is out there, the greater the chance he exposes the school or use the knife he stole to hurt someone; supernatural or otherwise,"
Emma sighs, counselling with Hope always turns into a fight, "Hope, your intentions are pure. I can see that, but you are being rash," Hope rolls her eyes at what Emma said. "This is not your battle,"
"It it very much my battle Emma," Hope uncrosses her arms, "I was the last person Landon Kirby was with IN the library,"
"Hope,"
"I was stupid enough not to further question why he was snooping there, or even check if he had indeed stole something!" Hope took her file from the table in front of her, "Go ahead, tell me I have survivor's guilt or whatever it is written in this fucking file,"
"Language,"
"I will not stop until I find him, but go ahead and delay me. Nothing! Absolutely nothing is at stake!" Hope screamed before retreating to the chair she came to hate. Who knew you could hate a chair, certainly not her. Emma sighs again, "What would you have done if Caroline had not caught you in the act?" Hope remained silent, turning to look at the window breathing angrily through her nose.
"Did anyone help you with the spell?" The memory of last night flash in Hope's mind. "No. Can I go now?"
