Days melt into a blur of passion and moments as Amelia and Kook immerse themselves into each other. A couple of months has passed since the last real conversation with her dad. Despite the occasional whisper of doubt that flits through her mind, Amelia allows herself to be swept away by the tide of Kook's affection. He takes her to exquisite dinners, showers her with luxurious gifts, and whispers sweet nothings into her ear that make her toes curl.

Yet, amidst this romantic whirlwind, a strong sense of unease lingers—her father's disapproval. One evening, as she's curled up in Kook's arms, her phone buzzes with an unexpected call. It's her dad, his voice grave. "Amelia, we need to talk. It's serious." The joy drains from her face as she nods solemnly, the weight of his words heavy in the air. "Okay, Dad. What's going on?" she asks, her heart pounding in anticipation.

Kook's arms tighten around her protectively as he feels her tense up at the sound of her father's voice. He knows the strain their relationship puts on her, and it's something he's been trying to ignore, hoping it would just go away. But now, with the harsh reality crashing down on them, he can't help but feel a twinge of anger. He's given her more happiness in these few weeks than anyone else ever has, and yet, she's still scared of losing her family. He sits up, his expression a mix of concern and determination. "Is everything okay?" he asks, his voice low and gruff.

Amelia's father's voice is strained, and she can tell he's holding back tears. He tells her that he's been diagnosed with cancer, the words echoing through the room like a death knell. She feels the color drain from her face, her body going cold. Kook's hand on her back is the only thing keeping her grounded as she processes the news.

Her mind races with fear and guilt—fear for her father's health and guilt for the rift between them because of her relationship with Kook. She nods, her voice barely above a whisper, trying to keep her composure. "I'm... I'm so sorry, Dad. What stage is it?" she asks, her eyes brimming with tears. Kook's hand tightens, his expression a mix of anger and concern. He knows that Amelia's family situation is complicated, but the pain in her voice cuts him deeply. He's seen the love she has for her father, and now, her fear of losing him. "Stage four," her dad's voice cracks over the line. "They say it's spread. I'm so sorry, baby girl," he adds, the pain in his voice like a knife to her heart.

The room seems to spin around Amelia as she clutches the phone, her knuckles white. "Oh my God, Dad," she manages to choke out, her voice trembling with shock. "What can we do?" she asks, her mind racing. "The doctors are optimistic about treatment," he says, trying to sound hopeful. But she can hear the underlying fear in his tone, and it sends a shiver down her spine.

She nods, even though he can't see her. "I'll be there for you, no matter what," she promises, her eyes filling with tears. Kook's hand moves from her back to her shoulder, squeezing gently. His gaze is intense, his jaw set in a firm line. He knows the gravity of the situation, and the protective instincts that drive him are on high alert.

The news of her father's illness is a punch to the gut for Amelia, and she feels a sudden, desperate need to be with her family. She swipes at her cheeks, trying to maintain her composure. "I love you." she whispers. As she hangs up, she collapses into Kook's arms, sobbing uncontrollably. His embrace is strong and comforting, his heart breaking for her pain. He whispers sweet nothings into her hair, his voice a soothing balm to her shattered soul. But deep down, he knows that this is just the beginning of a long, hard battle—both for her father's health and for their relationship.
