The sleek black sedan pulled up to the curb in front of Kook's brother's house. The vibrant lights of the city twinkled in the background, casting a stark contrast to the solemn mood that filled the vehicle. Kook stepped out first, his gaze lingering on Amelia, whose eyes were fixed on the house with a mix of anticipation and excitement to see Nate. Amelia stepping out of the car, she smooths down her ripped jeans and adjusts the band T-shirt. "This is it, huh?" She asks with a nervous smile, her voice a mix of excitement and trepidation. "I haven't seen Nate in ages. What's he been up to?"
He nods, his expression serious as he rounds the car to join her. "He's been doing well. School, friends, the usual kid stuff." He pauses, his eyes searching hers for a moment before looking away. "But he's missed you, Amelia." A sudden burst of energy from the house as the door swings open and a young boy with a mop of dark black hair sprints out, his eyes wide with joy. "Amelia!" He cries out, barreling into her arms and nearly knocking her over with the force of his hug.
The sound of laughter and the warm embrace of Nate lightens the mood as Kook watches them, his thoughts torn between the past and the present. He tries to keep his feelings in check, not wanting to spoil the reunion with his own inner turmoil. The sight of Nate's pure, unbridled joy at seeing Amelia again is like a balm to the tension that has been building in Kook's chest. His scarred cheek twitches slightly as he attempts to maintain his stoic facade, but the corners of his mouth tug upwards into a genuine smile.
He approaches the duo, his steps measured and deliberate, and ruffles Nate's hair gently. "Looks like he's really missed you," he says, the affection in his voice undeniable. Amelia's eyes shine with happiness as she holds the young boy close, whispering sweet nothings into his ear. The warm evening air carries the faint scent of grilling meat and spices from the brother's house, setting Kook's stomach rumbling with hunger and nostalgia for simpler times. He glances back at the house, the light from the windows spilling onto the well-kept lawn, and thinks of the dinner that awaits them, the conversations that will be shared.
As the three of them walk towards the house, Kook's brother emerges from the shadows of the porch, his eyes studying them with curiosity. He's a few years older than Kook, with a more relaxed demeanor and a gentle smile that belies the resilience required to live in their world. His name is Seokjin, a man who has chosen a life away from the mafia but is not immune to its influence. Seokjin walks down the porch steps, his gaze shifting between Kook and Amelia. "Welcome," he says warmly, his English tinged with a faint accent. He reaches out to shake Amelia's hand, his grip firm but not overpowering. "It's been a while, Kook. And who is this lovely lady you've brought with you?"
"Seokjin, this is Amelia." Kook says, his voice low and protective. "She's my Fi..My Girlfriend. Amelia, this is my brother, Seokjin." Amelia's cheeks flush at the introduction, a little surprised by the sudden turn of events. She had hoped, but she wasn't sure if her and Kook were at that level yet. She quickly recovers though, offering Seokjin a wide smile, her eyes lighting up with genuine warmth. "It's so nice to finally meet you, Mr. Seokjin. Kook has told me so much about you" she says, her voice bubbling with excitement.
She looks over at the boy, who is now holding her hand tightly, and gives it a gentle squeeze. The warmth of the evening air wraps around them like a comforting blanket, and she can't help but feel a sense of belonging in this unfamiliar place. The evening stretches out before them, filled with the aroma of sizzling bulgogi and the comforting scent of steaming rice. Seokjin leads them into the house, the walls adorned with family photos and the occasional trophy from Nate's soccer games.
