i was walking with thomas on the outdoor stadium then who threw and caught his rugby ball in the air. i don't know what drove me here with him, but i do then, i don't know.

"when i came to your room, you were sleeping in billie's bed. with her." he said suddenly.

"oh." i just replied and he sighed clutching his ball in his hands. "I was tired." i said and he nodded.

"But last night you were too and after class you were totally riding him. Every time, I see you laughing with her or seeing you leave together..." he took a breath.

I didn't say anything because I didn't really know what to say. He threw me the rugby ball and I threw it back to him. before we sat down on one of the benches.

I caught him looking at me and smiled. He smiled back, throwing me the rugby ball as I caught it.

"You're really pretty," he said, giving me one of his looks.

"Thank you." I cleared my throat. "Why rugby?" I asked, changing the subject.

"I can let off steam. I can tackle people. I can scream if I want to. My dad was a good rugby player. Really the best rugby player. I want to make him proud, you know? My dad got injured and can't play anymore. I want to do it for him. Achieve his goals. Get into the school of his dreams and shit."

"I'm sorry about your daddy. and that's sweet." i smiled. "I hope you become a player as cool and as strong as your dad. Although I think you already are." i complimented him.

"thanks dahlia. coming from you, that's a lot." i tossed him the ball and he twirled it around in his hands nervously. i should have been back in my room forever ago but thomas really seems to need someone.

"my dad used to tell me that if you felt bad for a while. you'd look at the stars and you'd immediately feel better. i don't know why he said that." he laughed. "no matter how much i look at the stars, i never feel better."

He looked up at the stars.

"the stars are all the same. it's beautiful to see, but it's not an amazing thing. but when i'm with you, i feel like the star he was talking about was a person you felt good with." he looked at me.

"You are that person." he said.

My cheeks flushed. My hands moved up my legs and he took my hands in his and I froze.

"dahlia, i like you. i'd be crazy not to. i want you."

foliage rustled, putting all our attention on the leaves, but there was no one there. "

my gaze turns to thomas and he grabs my hand.

"let's go somewhere else."
