My music from my headphones fills my ears as I make my way down the street. My hat thankfully blocks some of the sunlight that's trying to burn my eyeballs, but my dark clothes don't help from the horrible heat that's trying to cook me. It can sometimes take a while putting on the makeup and clothes I like so I don't always dress up all the way, but today I decided to do it. The summer heat won't stop me from doing what I like! As I walk a bit more through my city the thought of air conditioning brings me much joy, and luckily a local coffee shop is just a few doors down.

As I make my way to the door of the establishment I get a few odd looks. Not everyone dresses like me so I tend to get those looks, but that doesn't mean they get to stare at me longer than necessary. Although I tend to get dirty looks sometimes, I also get a few looks of awe. It's always a nice time when someone else appreciates my music and fashion tastes.

I enter inside the coffee shop and turn down my music slightly, and I let one of my ears out from my headphones so I can hear everything and make an order. My eyes glance over the menu  quickly, but I pretty much know what I want already. While I wait in the line of people I glance around the room, it's a bit busy so it might take a few minutes until I get to the front. My arms cross over my chest and I focus on my music playing in my left ear, I tap my boot against the floor in time to the song playing. That's when I suddenly feel like I am being stared at; the culprit is across the room near the front door. His gaze looks up and down, taking in every inch of my outfit. He looks up to see my hair and makeup, but he notices me looking back at him. He blushes from embarrassment and looks off to the side trying to avoid my eyes. He wears a mask over one side of his face which hides his emotions for now.

This masked man nervously fiddles with the sleeve of his coat while trying to not look at me. Most of his clothing is black, just like mine, so perhaps he wants to get away from the heat as well. Once I realize that now I am the one staring for too long I give him an apologetic smile, and then I turn my attention to the front of the room. A minute later it is my turn to order, I go up to the cashier and tell them what I want. After, I stand off to the side and wait, once my order is ready I take it and find a spot to sit down. I place my coffee and dessert down on the table and open up my bag to take out my tablet, I make a nice setup so I can draw and have room for the other things on the table. I hum softly as I take a sip of my coffee, it's perfect.

A few minutes pass by until I feel eyes on me again and a presence nearby. I look up from my sketch to see the masked man only a few feet away. He mumbles anxiously, "Is is okay if I sit here? There's just not a lot of places to sit and uhm...I wanted to apologize for staring at you. I am sorry. I know what it's like to be stared at, it's not nice." I nod and gesture to the chair beside me, he grins softly and sets his coffee down on his side of the table and then sits down. His leg bounces as he holds his hands together, "My name is Erik, by the way. Sorry again. Your fashion is really nice, it intrigued me." He then seems to have just noticed my headphones, he blushes harder than he did earlier. "I'm interrupting you from your music, I'm sorry."

"You need to stop apologizing," I say cooly. His mouth opens to say the dreaded words, but then he stops and closes his mouth. I chuckle at his actions. I tell him my name and relax in my seat to show him I don't mind him being here with me. I continue, "Thank you for liking my outfit. I'm goth, if you want to know." His eyebrow lifts slightly as if something seems to click in his brain. He asks a question with his lovely soft voice.

   "What are you listening to?"

His genuine curiosity makes me happy to share, "I'm listening to Specimen." I show him the lock screen of my phone so he can see the name of the song. I can tell he has no idea who this band is or what this song is, but he still gives me a smile like if he did.

"What do you like to listen to?" I ask gently.

He laughs awkwardly and responds, "I like classical music mostly, and operas."

My eyebrows lift a bit, in the same manner his did a few moments ago, I shrug with a small grin, "That's cool. You seem to like old fashion stuff, right?" I ask as I gesture to his clothing. His outfit is clearly a modern take on Edwardian men's fashion. Parts of my clothes tend to come from older fashion eras as well, so it makes me enjoy his style even more. I just met him and I already find him so interesting.

Erik blushes from how well I'm understanding him. He nods in agreement, "You're right, I do." It falls back to silence as we take sips of our drinks. Out of the corner of his eye Erik watches me, he stares at my makeup mostly. I can't blame him though, I've been staring at his mask this whole time. I wonder if it's a fashion statement or it's something he needs. It's a bit odd, but that's what people think of me, to not be rude I turn my gaze back to my tablet.

The silence lingers for a few more awkward minutes. Erik doesn't have anything to say, and nor do I. His leg bounces nervously while his fingers twitch and feel over his cup of coffee. I decide to say something for his sanity, "Hey, after we finish our drinks would you like to go to the record store that's around the corner?"

He nods with a warm smile, "I would love to! I go there whenever I can. Perhaps while we are there you can show me more of what music you like? I enjoy learning about it."

Now it's my turn to blush, thankfully my makeup covers it up. I grin and take off my headphones and hand it to him, "I'll let you listen to some right now. I'll try and start you off with some stuff that might be more your style." He puts on his headphones without hesitation. I move in closer to him and pull out my phone to show him some albums he should start with, as I explain the artists and the songs he listens intently. He's certainly one of the nicest strangers I ever met...and definitely the most handsome.
