My arm holds onto the lantern to light the dark way down to the phantom's lair. Finally, I wear my sleeves down proudly. The words may not be the nicest but I know who said them. My dear phantom: Erik.

'Who are you and what in the hell are you doing down here?"

Those words seem silly now. Erik has apologized profusely but I honestly don't mind anymore. His words were so cold and distant, but now every word he tells me is dripping in love. We're still getting used to being soulmates. It was definitely a bit awkwardly at first...

A few months earlier Erik and I were sitting on his couch in the lair, he on one end and me at the furthest spot away from him. Complete silence. Erik's leg was anxiously bouncing up and down, his gaze on anything but me. After a few minutes of nothing he mumbled, "So, we don't have to kiss and stuff already, right?"

"Oh gosh no!"

"Thank god," he sighed in relief.

Yeah...I would say things are better once we got past those awkward first few days.

Once I get to the lair I set down my lantern and head into the living room. Erik's music is pouring throughout his home, but upon hearing the front door close he stops. While I'm setting down my things on the end table he comes up behind me and speaks softly, "How were dress rehearsals?"

"Interesting to say the least...Carlotta had another meltdown about something trivial, it was smaller than the one last week though."

He sighs deeply, "I'm glad I missed it."

I turn to face him and I'm greeted by his soft smile. His mask is on his face as usual. He let me see his face the first night we met and a few rare times after. He doesn't need to have it on around me and he knows that, but I don't want to make him uncomfortable. He opens his arms which I gladly fall into.

It makes me glad to see him get used to my touch, at first he was incredibly anxious. We held each other the first night we met, but once the emotional atmosphere went away it was weird. Erik had to get used to another being in his home, it definitely took a bit.

A few weeks into us meeting he had a few days where he was completely locked into his music. I let him be at first, but a few days in I really missed him. When I arrived to his lair I went to check on him in his room. As I expected, he was immersed in his composing. To let him know of my presence I placed my hand on his shoulder, and before I can react he whipped around and grabbed my wrist roughly.

"Ow!" I whined from his grip on me. He gasped and mumbled my name softly as he pulled away. His eyes stared into my own and I could read far into his thoughts, I know he didn't mean to do that.

"I'm sorry... I didn't know you were here."

I nodded as I felt my wrist, "I'll warn you next time."

He never grabbed me like that again after that day which I am grateful for. In return, I never touched him without warning again. He even made me dinner to make up for that incident.

Erik rubs my back and presses his mouth against the top of my head, "What are you thinking about?"

"Us."

He chuckles and leans back a bit to see my face better, "Good things, I hope."

"Very good things!"

His hand envelopes mine as he watches me, after staring into my eyes a moment he brings my hand to his mouth and presses a kiss with his soft lips. My skin tingles from the sensation and it makes me feel so giddy and content inside. I'm so lucky to have this man as my soulmate.

"Would you like me to make some tea?"

"That would be lovely."

The rest of the afternoon we just cuddle on the couch and read and never leave each other's side. I used to feel so alone, but now with Erik I know I always have someone. I always have someone to call home. It's so nice to have him as my soulmate, and even better to know he is so much nicer than the first words that are imprinted on my arm. We're taking things slow and I wouldn't have it any other way.
