Meanwhile, Mantis and Tai Lung were standing in front of Daiyu, who was sitting cross-legged on the ground in a meditative state. They've remained like that for at least half an hour, waiting for her to break contact with the others back at the Valley of Peace to continue their search for the Rumbling Pit's gate.
Despite Tai Lung's agitation his urge to argue that they needed to hurry, he remained patient and waited for Daiyu to come back from her trance. And while doing so, he got himself into a conversation with Mantis to kill some time.
"So, little one, tell me something." Tai Lung started. "Back at the rooftop this morning, what did she mean when she said that there were many young people for Po to choose? It sounded like he was rather sad that she tried to get rid of the fox earlier."
Mantis sighed.
"Now that Po has become teacher and pretty soon the new head of the Jade Palace, he has to choose new students to teach his first class. And when the fox tried to rob the Jade Palace-..."
"Rob the Jade Palace?" Tai Lung cut him off, Mantis nodded.
"Yes, big guy. She even almost wrecked some of the relics there. And after we caught her and sent her away to jail for two years, she decided it would be funny to spit in Daiyu's face and now she's got six years on her sentence, which Po offers to reduce once all of this will be over."
Tai Lung slowly nodded.
"Okay. And my guess would be that Po didn't choose any of those young people and chose the fox instead, did he?" Tai Lung guessed.
"Unfortunately." Mantis replied. "I mean, of all the potential students he could've chosen, he chose the fox."
"Hmm." Tai Lung hummed, a hint of hidden anger in his voice. "So first he gave the staff right to the Chameleon and now this? Everyone must've lost their minds since I got sent away."
"Hey, what happened to the staff was beyond our control and practically all of us have tried to convince Po otherwise, but he never backs down once he's determined to go for it." Mantis replied.
"So what happened to all the relics?" Tai Lung then asked.
"I stole them back."
Startled, they instinctively turned their heads at Daiyu, who was no longer in a meditative state. Picking up her cane, she got back on her feet. And with that, they went on with their quest.
"You stole them back?" Tai Lung asked.
"Right under her snotty nose." Daiyu nodded. "Intact, of course. And Po mainly took her to give her a second chance at doing something right. Besides, I don't think she'll take that chance even remotely seriously."
"When has she taken anything seriously after Po bailed her out? We all know better by what we saw of her on our way here." Mantis said.
"Chill out, It's only a matter of time before the fox makes an absolute fool of herself and maybe downright unmask herself. But I already find her so pathetic in some aspects, so I've given her a little something to be able protect herself." Daiyu replied. "But, like, back in the forest. Seriously, how did she survive this long on her own in the forest traveling from here to the Valley of Peace?"
"It's a wonder she's still alive after scratching herself with poison oak and you getting her to dive into that poison ivy bush with so much ease." Mantis nodded.
"Okay, maybe I did that a little on purpose. And me trying to turn her in was obviously a last resort to prevent our mission from getting jeopardized." Daiyu admitted, not so shyly. "But was I wrong though?"
