SEONGHWA

Seonghwa raced out of the gym after getting the phone call regarding the loss of his mother. His heart was beating loudly against his chest, too scared to even believe what he'd been told. There was no way. She was fine. She had to be. She looked okay when they saw her so why would she be gone in just less than a day? It didn't make sense to him.

He took the next bus to the hospital, wasting no time in rushing to the ward she was in. And when he arrived, it was just Minsoo standing there.

"Where is she?", Seonghwa stressed, "They're all lying, right? Where is she?"

"Hwa... she's gone."

"You can't possibly expect me to believe that, can you?"

A nurse arrived outside to meet the two brothers, "Our deepest condolences to you two. Would you like to see your mother?"

Minsoo held his younger brother and nodded. The nurse guided them through and the entire time, Seonghwa hoped this was all staged. He couldn't come to terms with the reality of it all but regardless of how much he hoped, he still came face to face with the dead body of his mother.

Seonghwa choked on his own tears, slapping a hand over his mouth. The tears streamed down uncontrollably and this had to be the most he'd cried in so long. Minsoo let go of him and he stumbled forward, taking his mother's hands in his. She was now pale, her lips turning a dark shade of purple and her hands cold, with nothing to warm it even in death.

"Come back.", Seonghwa sobbed, dropping to his knees, not once letting go of her hand, "Don't leave me like this, please."

There was no response. As expected.

"I promise I'll do my best to be a good person, I just need you to be here. I can't do this without you."

He felt Minsoo's arms wrap around him, in attempted reassurance while he quietly sobbed next to his younger brother.

Seonghwa wasn't prepared for this. Regardless of how much Minsoo had tried to. If only there was a way. Seonghwa refused to leave for nearly an hour before Minsoo managed to get him out.

The next thing was to discuss the funeral details and whether her family wanted her buried or cremated. Minsoo and Seonghwa returned back home to see a familiar car parked outside. When they walked in to their mansion, their father was sitting on the couch with a glass of wine in his hand while a lady came out with a bowl of fruit salad.
