"So, what are we watching today?" Sunghoon asked, plopping on the couch. Jay followed suit, sitting a few inches away from Sunghoon. He glanced over at Sunghoon, entranced by his side profile. "Well, we can watch anything you want," Jay blurted out, and Sunghoon turned to face him only to catch his gaze.
Jay quickly looked away, averting his gaze to his ceramic bowl filled to the brim with ramen broth. Sunghoon smirked, leaning back on the couch.
"Do you like horror movies?" Sunghoon asked, facing him once again. Jay gulped down the bite of ramen before nodding. "Sure, but not too scary." He replied, "I'm fine with jumpscares," he added.
"Horror it is, then." Sunghoon said, "Oh!" he exclaimed, "whoever flinches first or cowers has to..." he trailed off as Jay stared at him in perplexion. "Has to?" He asked, taking another bite.
"Okay! So, the loser has to grant a wish– and it could be anything." Sunghoon said with a playful smirk, the light illuminating from the TV flickering on his face from the side.
"Well.. it can't be too extreme!" Jay proposed. "Nah that'll be too boring," Sunghoon responded back.
This felt oddly comforting to Sunghoon. He didn't feel like a stranger when he was with Jay; during work, he strived to be professional, but when he was alone with him, Sunghoon felt like he could be himself. He wouldn't worry about whether or not he was Park Sunghoon. He felt like a teenager experiencing friendship for the first time. As they quarreled back and forth, time passed by and before they knew it, they were leaning against the rim of the sofa, watching as the movie progressed, intensely.
Jay was finished with his ramen, and the table across them was littered with a few cans of beer and bowls of ramen. "What do you think will happen to the girl?" Sunghoon whispered, not removing his gaze from the TV. "She's gonna figure it out. I mean— it's literally right there." Jay responded, pointing at the screen.
All of a sudden, the movie went completely silent, only the hushed whispers of the girl reciting some kind of holy prayer. Both males watched in anticipation, as a low, static rumble sounded from beside the girl. Both of them were focused on the screen when out of nowhere, a horrifying creature popped up behind the girl.
Jay flinched lightly, but Sunghoon felt it so he sat up immediately after the jumpscare. "You flinched!" He said with a smirk. "I felt it, don't even try to deny it."
Jay blew a sigh, dejected. "Fine, whatever. You win." Sunghoon cackled, "I knew you'd lose." Jay rolled his eyes, but he still felt that spark of elation burning inside him.
"You better do what I tell you to do." Sunghoon said, standing up. Jay nodded while resting his head on the couch, feeling too exhausted to get up. "What time is it?" he asked himself, eyes roaming around the room, but then he remembered he never bothered placing a wall clock since he knew it'd be completely useless.
"Shit, it's 2:46." Sunghoon responded. His eyes landed back on Jay, who seemed to be drooping due to exhaustion. "You should sleep, you're about to pass out." Sunghoon said with a light-hearted chuckle. Jay hummed in confusion as he moved his gaze up to Sunghoon who was staring down at him.
Sunghoon bit his lip as he leaned down, watching Jay's eyes furrow in perplexion even more. "Go sleep," he whispered inside his ear which sent butterflies all over Jay's body. Sunghoon stood back up, fixing his shirt. "I'll carry the princess to bed, what do you say?"
"What?! N-no!" Jay immediately sat up, heat rushing to his cheeks. Sunghoon snickered, shaking his head. "I'll leave the dishes in the sink, but you need to lock your door."
Jay wearily nodded his head, feeling the energy seep out of his every second. "Okay.." he hummed as Sunghoon stared at him and patted his head and threw the dirty dishes in the sink, throwing away the cans. Jay followed him out the house where Sunghoon bid him goodbye, still not over Jay's pout.
"I'll see you tomorrow, hmm? Don't forget to wait for me!" He said to the sleepy Jay, who was currently leaning on the doorframe, nodding to everything. Sunghoon sighed, patting his head one last time before walking to his room. For some reason, he also felt tired after spending time with Jay.
I want to spend more time with him, Sunghoon thought as he made his way over to his bedroom.
