I'm sitting in my car in the Reeds driveway trying to hype myself up enough to go in. The night we went bowling was do much fun. To say I was surprised with how nice and helpful Trent was, would be a huge understatement. But when he walked me to my car and held me close, I honestly thought I was going to wake up and it was all a dream. With how well that evening went there is no reason to be this freaked out, it wasn't a date and I've been here before with the whole family. I asked him multiple times if I needed to bring anything this evening. He swore I didn't need to but there is no way I'm going to a game night empty handed. So, I decided that I would bring a strawberry cheesecake. I mean everyone loves cheesecake; it seemed like the best option.
I checked my hair in the review mirror one more time. I left it down and in its natural curls, so it was a little fizzy at the top. Opening my door, to slip out of my seat I blew out a deep breath. I can do this; I sound pathetic it's just games.
I left my hand to knock and before my small fist had a chance to make contact with the door, it flung open with a beaming Kayla looking at me. Causing me to take a step back at the fast movement, my heart was already beating like crazy; now I think it's going to explode.
"Yay! You're here, now we can get started." She says in her cheery voice that instantly puts me at easy. I follow her inside and take my shoes off. I stare of my feet and wiggle my toes I really should have picked better socks; these have Care Bears all over them. I put that thought in the back of mind and give Kayla my full attention.
"Thanks for having me. I made strawberry cheesecake I hope that's okay." I give her a small smile as she gently takes is from me.
"That's perfect. Bub will be super happy that's his favorite." She gives me a sly smile and wink knowing her words are going to make me blush. Not knowing what to say to that I just giggle and follow her into the dining room where everyone else is sitting.
They have all kinds of food spread across the island and it all smells amazing. The perfect set up for a fun evening. Rose sees us walk in first and she is out of her chair and coming to me arms open before the three mean realizes what's going on. As we hug and exchange hellos, I catch Trent watching us over his mom's shoulder. My nerves pick right back up. Why does he have to be so handsome? I mean since the moment he got out of the tow truck I couldn't take my eyes off him. He is so rugged and manly; you can't miss it. Even with his scowl he kept on his face when he talked to me but now with him smiling at me. I don't think I could squash this crush I have, even if i wanted to.
"Okay, now that Kacey is here let's get some food then we will start the first game." The older Trent said as he claps his hands together. We all make our way to the island and form a line. I hang in the back wanting to let everyone in front of me, when I feel strong hands wrap around my biceps and pull me close. I knew its Trent with the tingles on my skin where he is touching me. Just like it did at the bowling alley, I almost trip over myself at the force of the pull. Thankfully he still had a hold of me and kept me up right.
"I got you Sweetness, you are getting in front of me." He whispers in my ear, causing every nerve in my body to come to life. I mumble a quick thank you and grab a plate.
The food was fantastic and the light conversation we had eased the last bit of anxiety I had. Kayla put all the dishes in the sink as we all got ready got for the first game. My family didn't play a lot of games like this growing up, so I didn't have high expectations for myself.
"Kacey Honey, have you played Uno before?" Rose looks at me with a soft smile has she waits for my response.
"No, I haven't, we didn't play a lot of games like this growing up." I shrug my shoulder as I make a neat stack with the cards I was dealt. After putting them in order from lowest number to highest, I realized no one is speaking. I look up and everyone's eyes are one me.
