Six Months Later
Like we have for almost a year now on Sunday's me and Kacey hang out. But today is a special day. Today I'm going to ask her to be my wife. I've had the ring for about a month after Kayla's wedding, I wanted to ask her then but the timing wasn't right. Kacey started getting more and more customers, a lot of the guest at the wedding asked for her business cards. She even had to hire an assistant. The biggest change though was I started another job. After everything that was said between Brittany and Kacey, we all set down and had a real conversation. My parents were upset they didn't know about her cheating again. But were more upset that I was giving up by dream for them. I tried to tell them it was okay, that I would always be there for them. That wasn't what they want though.
After a lot of debate, we come to an agreement. My uncle William is going to come help at the shop a few days a week so I can proceed with the job T-bones buddy offered me. T-bone was more than happy to help me out, after I showed him some of my sketches.
Now that things are settling down it is the perfect time to ask the perfect girl to never leave my side. I pulled up to her apartment, removed my keys that now had an extra key on it. Kacey gave me a keys to her place, so I don't have to wait on her to open the door.
I let myself in hearing music playing from the kitchen. She is dancing around still in her pjs and her gorgeous hair twisted into a clip. I wrap my arms around her making her jump "Oh my gosh Baby! You can't scare me like that." She tries to wiggle out of my hold but I hold her tighter.
"Sorry I scared you Sweetness, I just couldn't help myself." The song changed making us sway slowly. I want to stay like this; her in her oversized shirt and shorts. Maybe watch a movie, but I have a plan and I want to see that ring on her finger before I go to sleep tonight.
"Go get ready we have plans today." I pat her butt shooing her off, while sticking out her tongue she skips off. I decided I wanted to take her to the overlook just outside of town. It's still summer so the weather is just right for an afternoon in the sun. Mom and Kayla volunteered to pack us an old fashion picnic basket with a red and white checkered blanket included. My cooking skills haven't got any better so I was more than happy to accept their help.
It wasn't long before Kacey met me by the front door in a yellow and pink sundress with wild flowers all over it. Hair still up in a clip and her face free of any make-up. I stoped myself from blinking wanted to make sure the memory of the way she looks now stays with me forever.
"So where are we going Baby?" She asks with a soft giggle, probably wondering why I'm staring so hard. I shake my head and open the door for us. "Can't tell you Sweets, it is a surprise."
When we stopped at mom house, Kacey tried to get out of the truck thinking we were going to hang out there. Then Kayla came out holding the basket and a bouquet of flowers; now she hasn't stopped asking me questions about what we are doing. Making me think back to the first day we met."Trent I'm going insane please tell me where we are going and what is in this basket." I glared at her for using my real name like that is going to make me talk. "Trent is home with mom, so I don't know who you think you are talking to. But if you wait just a couple more seconds we will arrive at our destination."
She ignores me and just starts looking out the windows. Pulling into the small parking lot at the head of the trail that leads to the overlook she is smiling now realizing what we are doing. Hopefully not all of what is happening today.
"Baby are we going to have a picnic at the overlook?" Her voice at least one octave higher with her excitement. I just nod my head and jump out to open her door. Now with her and the Basket in hand I try to calm my nerves. I want this to be perfect.
I laid the blanket down, then set the food and drinks out as Kacey watched me. Normally she would fight me and try to help; but I think she realized I wanted to do something nice for her. So she patiently waited for me to finish."Okay now you can sit Sweetness." She did so gracefully making sure not to knock anything over. "Wow this all looks amazing. Thank you Baby" I got up to move behind moving her closer to lean on me. "Anything for you."
We ate and talked about our week enjoying the clear skies. "How is Meagan doing?" It was her assistants first week and Kacey was a little scared to be someone boss but I know she would do amazing at it. "She did a really good job, takes direction really well. She has some really good ideas for a wedding we are doing in a few months. I think she is the right fit for the job." I'm playing with the ends of her hair she let down when a soft breeze came through. I know she is going to do an amazing job planning our wedding. "That's great. Hey I got a question for you."
She turns around to give me her full attention, humming for me to continue. This is it, I clear my throat. "Have you thought any more about our wedding?" She tilts her chin thinking. "Well I have a binder at home with things that I like but I've had it forever. So I'm sure there are some ideas in there that I would want to change. I guess when the time comes I can take it out and look through it but who knows when that will be." She is laughing making me smile.
"When we get back you need to get it out so we can look at it together. I'm not waiting forever to call you Mrs. Reed so we need to get a jump start." I'm still smiling but my tone is serious making Kacey still.
"I mean we can look at it if you want but you have to ask me to marry you before we can have a wedding you know." Her eyes are wide and I can see her putting the piece of today together. I move back getting on one knee and pulling out the simple sliver ring with three stones placed in the middle.
Tears are already pooling in her eyes as she covers her mouth with a gasp. "Kacey I meant it when I said you are it for me. You have brought so much love and hope in my life. At first when you kept showing up I thought it was just another thing that wasn't going my way. Then I realized it was because I need you, I needed someone to show me there is more to life. Now not a day goes by that I'm not thankful for that stupid flat tire. Will you please continue to be the sweetness in my bitter life by marring me?" My voice cracking at the end.
She doesn't say a word, just tackles me to the ground kissing my face between nodding her head yes. I circle my arms around her laughing.
"Is that a yes?"
Still nodding as she pulls away. I want to hear her say it. I sit us both up still wrapped around each other. "Sweetness I want to hear you, say it."
"It"
