Weeks have passed since you earned your cloak, and life as a Scout has taken on a new rhythm—rigid, demanding, but not without purpose. Then came the news: your first mission.

“Nothing too difficult,” Erwin had said earlier, his voice steady. “But it should be perfect for your introduction. You’ll be assigned to Levi’s squad.”

You remember the way your breath caught at that. Not from fear of the assignment—at least not entirely—but from the weight of what it meant. Fighting alongside him.

Now, you tighten the last strap of your ODM gear, the familiar weight settling around your hips and thighs. It’s a sensation you’ve grown used to, but today it feels different. Heavier. Realer.

You mount your horse and make your way to the front gate where your squad gathers. Erwin stands tall atop his own mount, a commanding presence beside Hange, Miche, and Levi. One by one, soldiers assemble, falling into formation.

Erwin’s voice breaks through the low murmurs:

“We’ll be heading outside the gates of Trost. The Garrison reported multiple Titan sightings advancing toward the outer gate. Our job is to eliminate them, study their movements, and bring back whatever we learn.”

His gaze sweeps across the soldiers.

“Remember your training. Trust in your comrades. And never forget why we fight.”

The silence deepens as every soldier leans in.

“We fight not just for survival—but for freedom. For the right to reclaim our world from the Titans’ grip. Our enemy is powerful… but they lack what we possess: the indomitable human spirit.”

You look around at the others—faces hard with determination, eyes forward, unwavering. Not one of them looks afraid.

But you are.

This will be your first time seeing a Titan in the flesh.

You’ve heard the stories. You’ve read the material. You’ve trained day and night.
But nothing can prepare you for the real thing.

Your heart pounds in your chest. Each beat a reminder that this is it. The stories of soldiers who never returned—whose bodies were never recovered—echo in your mind like a prayer gone unanswered.

"Move out!"

The sharp order jolts you from your thoughts.

You snap the reins. Your horse bolts forward, hooves pounding against the stone as the gate creaks open, spilling golden light across the ground. The world beyond is wide and open, deceptively peaceful under the morning sun.

Each squad moves with practiced precision, spreading out into formation.

You speed up, weaving through riders until you reach Levi’s group, falling in beside him.

You feel his eyes on you, and when you glance over, you know he’s seen it—the worry in your expression, the tension in your grip.

He doesn’t speak. He never does when he’s unsure of what he can promise.

His gaze flickers forward again, but you can sense the weight behind it.

He remembers.

He remembers losing Furlan and Isabel.

And he remembers telling you not to rely on him.

But even now, despite everything he’s tried to suppress, a part of him refuses to let go. Refuses to lose you, too.
