*Major's POV*
The walk from the Carr house to our new little cottage is 15 minutes.
I know that her and I are very well capable of getting there in a matter of 2 or 3 minutes, but I'm following her pace and simply walking.
The first half of the walk was completely quiet until she finally said something.
And it was a something that I didn't like at all.
"You don't like me, do you." She looked up at me.
I raised my eyebrows. "Why would you think that?"
"You haven't said a word, and you haven't looked at me." She shook her head.
I pursed my lips and nodded. "Which do you want the why to first?"
"Looking at me." She nodded.
"Since Cyrus made me a Beta, my entire body has been adjusted to doing my job, which includes always having my eyes on the grounds boarders while I'm here. But that's been hard since we got back yesterday, because when I look at you, it's damn near impossible to look away."
She let out a small smile.
Fuck her smile is pretty.
"Talking to me?"
"You haven't talked to me either." I shook my head.
"I was raised not to speak unless spoken to other when it comes to my brothers and father." She nodded.
I scrunched my face and finally looked down at her. "I'm sorry?"
"With my father and brothers, I speak freely. In the presence of other Elders and occupants of my coven, I don't speak unless they speak to me unless I'm angry."
I sighed and shook my head.
"They never cross lines, and if they attempt to, my father and brothers put them back in place. Disrespecting me isn't tolerated."
"And it won't be here either. When you're here, or I am with you, you do not need to be spoken to in order to speak. Speak freely."
"Really?" She raised her eyebrows.
"On these grounds, the women are just as equal as males. Like Alpha Orian and Luna Emi. All of us know that ultimately, Alpha Orian is the one who calls the shots for the pack. But Luna Emi, even though Alpha Orian has never said it, we all know that she calls the shots for Alpha Orian. That man worships the ground she walks on, as do all of the males with their mates. Even Ethan when it comes to Frazier. She hasn't accepted him yet, but he's made it known that he lives to make her happy. My mother doesn't have an official rank, and even though my father is the head of our family, she's the one who runs it. You are not lesser. You are equal. If we talk when we feel, so will you." I nodded.
She took a deep breath and smiled as I stepped to the mail box of our cottage. "Ok."
"This one is ours." I opened the box and pulled the key out. "We can go in, look around, and get a feel for the place. Then we can go shopping, you can decorate it however you please." I took her hand and lead her down the path and up the steps.
I opened the door and motioned her inside.
And she was nothing but smiled. "This is ours?"
I nodded.
"How would you like it?" She pursed her lips.
"All I want is for it to feel like home to you."
She nodded. "Why?"
