The school project felt like a cruel twist of fate. Out of all the partners I could have been assigned, it had to be Damien . I stared at the assignment sheet in disbelief, my heart pounding. How was I supposed to get through this? How could I work with him after everything that had happened?
"Xavier, we need to talk about the project," Damien said, approaching me after class. His voice was cold, his demeanor guarded.
I took a deep breath, forcing myself to stay calm. "Yeah, I guess we do."
"How about we meet at the café after school? It's quieter there, and we can get some work done without interruptions," he suggested, his tone leaving no room for argument.
I hesitated, my mind racing. The thought of spending time alone with Damien was both terrifying and exhilarating. But I couldn't let him see how much he affected me. I had to stay strong, to protect myself from further hurt.
"Fine," I said finally. "I'll meet you there."
The café was quiet, the soft hum of conversation and the clinking of cups providing a soothing backdrop. I arrived a few minutes early, my nerves on edge. When Damien walked in, my heart skipped a beat, but I forced myself to stay composed.
He nodded in greeting and we found a table in a secluded corner. As we set up our materials, the tension between us was palpable. I could feel the bond pulsing in the background, a constant reminder of what could have been.
"Let's get started," Damien said, his voice devoid of any warmth.
We began to work, our conversation stilted and formal. The project was straightforward enough, but the underlying tension made it feel like a Herculean task. Every time our hands brushed against each other while reaching for a pen or a book, I felt sparks running through me, electrifying my nerves.
I tried to focus on the work, but my eyes kept drifting to Damien . I couldn't help but admire his strong jawline, the way his shirt clung to his muscles. His presence was magnetic, and no matter how much I tried to resist, I found myself drawn to him.
As he leaned over to make a note, his scent enveloped me, making my pulse quicken. I shifted uncomfortably in my seat, trying to quell the unexpected arousal that was building inside me. What was wrong with me? How could I feel this way about someone who had hurt me so deeply?
"Xavier, are you paying attention?" Damien's voice snapped me out of my thoughts.
"Yeah, sorry," I muttered, my cheeks burning with embarrassment.
He glanced at me, his eyes narrowing slightly as if he could sense the change in my demeanor. I looked away, focusing intently on my notes, but I could feel his gaze lingering on me.
As we continued to work, the tension only grew stronger. At one point, Damien got up to go to the bathroom, and as he did, he deliberately placed his hand on my thigh, his touch lingering for a moment longer than necessary. I froze, my breath catching in my throat, a wave of heat washing over me.
When he finally moved away, I felt a mixture of relief and frustration. What was he playing at? Why was he teasing me like this? I tried to regain my composure, but the lingering sensation of his touch made it impossible to concentrate.
Damien's POV
Watching Xavier get affected by me was intoxicating. His every reaction, the way his eyes widened, the way his breath hitched, it all turned me on. I had to try hard not to do something to quench the lust that was suddenly raging inside me.
The bond between us was still there, undeniable and powerful, and seeing Xavier struggle with his emotions made my own desires flare up. I had rejected him, tried to push him away, but now that we were forced to work together, the attraction was impossible to ignore.
When I placed my hand on his thigh, I felt the spark between us, the electricity that seemed to sizzle in the air. His reaction was everything I had hoped for—he was flustered, his cheeks flushed, and his eyes filled with a mix of confusion and longing.
As I walked to the bathroom, I couldn't stop thinking about him. The way he looked at me, the way his body responded to my touch—it was driving me wild. I leaned against the sink, taking deep breaths to steady myself. I couldn't let my emotions get the best of me, not here, not now.
But as I splashed water on my face, the image of Xavier's flushed face, the way his eyes followed my every move, kept playing in my mind. I wanted him, needed him, and it was taking every ounce of willpower to keep myself in check.
Back at the table, the tension between us was almost unbearable. Xavier avoided my gaze, his cheeks still flushed with embarrassment. I could see the conflict in his eyes, the struggle to maintain his composure.
"Let's finish this," I said, my voice a little huskier than I intended. "We need to get this project done."
"Yeah, let's," he replied, his voice barely above a whisper.
We worked in silence, the air between us thick with unspoken emotions. Every brush of our hands, every accidental touch, sent jolts of electricity through me, and I could see it was affecting Xavier too.
I watched him out of the corner of my eye, admiring the way his brow furrowed in concentration, the way his lips parted slightly as he thought. I could see the tension in his shoulders, the way he was trying to hold himself together, and it only made me want him more.
As I leaned over to point out something in the notes, our faces were inches apart, and I could feel his breath on my skin. The moment stretched out, charged with anticipation. I wanted to close the distance, to feel his lips against mine, but I forced myself to pull back.
"We're almost done," I said, my voice strained.
"Yeah," he replied, his voice shaky.
Xavier PoV
When we finally finished the project, the relief was palpable. We packed up our things in silence, the tension still simmering beneath the surface.
"Thanks for meeting me here," Damien said, his voice softer now.
"Yeah, sure," I replied, not meeting his eyes. "I'll see you at school."
As I walked away, I could feel his gaze on me, the bond between us pulsing with unresolved emotions. The attraction was still there, stronger than ever, but I couldn't afford to let it control me. I had to stay strong, to protect myself from further hurt.
But as I left the café, I couldn't shake the feeling that this wasn't over. The bond between us was too powerful to ignore, and I knew that sooner or later, we would have to confront it. And when that time came, I wasn't sure if I would be able to resist.
