Damian's words echoed in my mind as the days turned into weeks. "I'll tell you everything, but in time. Be patient and trust me." I tried to relax, but the weight of unanswered questions lingered. Damien's ceremony to become alpha was fast approaching, and he became increasingly busy, leaving me with more time alone than I liked.

As the days passed, I found myself growing more frustrated. Damien kept pushing and avoiding my questions, his promises of revealing everything feeling more like empty assurances. His absence at school and his growing distance left me feeling isolated.

One afternoon, deciding I needed a distraction, I went to the mall. I needed to buy a suitable outfit for Damien's ceremony anyway, and I hoped a change of scenery might help clear my mind. I wandered through the stores, trying to focus on the task at hand.

After selecting a few suits, I walked into a changing room stall to try them on. As I was pulling on a jacket, someone suddenly pushed me inside and locked the door behind us. I already suspected who it was and turned to confirm my suspicion. Marcus stood there, his piercing gaze locked onto mine.

"What do you want, Marcus?" I asked, trying to keep my voice steady.

He stepped closer, the small space making his presence even more intimidating. His eyes bore into mine, and I felt my breathing become irregular.

"You've been avoiding me, Xavier," he said softly, placing his fingers under my chin and forcing me to look up at him. "I don't like being ignored."

I tried to pull away, but there was nowhere to go. Marcus's body was only centimeters away, and his piercing look made my nerves stand on edge. He stepped even closer, our bodies now touching, and my eyes snapped up to meet his, wide with a mix of fear and confusion.

Marcus's POV

As I looked down at Xavier, I could feel his nervous energy radiating from his fragile frame. For some reason, I felt the need to see how far I could push him, to test the limits of his reactions. I stepped closer, closing the gap between us entirely. His eyes widened, and he looked away again, his breathing becoming shallow.

I traced my fingers over Xavier's skin, marveling at its delicate texture. A part of me wondered how his lips would feel against mine. Initially, I had approached Xavier to get under Damian's skin, to affect him through his mate. I didn't believe in the prophecy that was whispered about them. But now, being this close to Xavier, I couldn't deny the possibility that there might be some truth to the stories.

"Tell me, Xavier," I said softly, my fingers still tracing his skin. "What has Damien told you?"

"He told me about his past," Xavier replied, his voice trembling. "But he's still hiding things."

"Of course he is," I murmured, stepping even closer. Our bodies pressed together, and Xavier's eyes snapped back to mine, wide with a mix of fear and something else.

I watched as Xavier's lips parted slightly, his gaze locking onto mine. There was something hypnotic about the way he looked at me, something that made me want to push further. I could see the confusion and the faint spark of attraction in his eyes. Subconsciously, he licked his lips, and I felt an urge to kiss him.

I didn't understand why I felt this way. I was supposed to hate Xavier because I hated Damian. But as I thought this, Xavier moved slightly in the confined space, his body pressing against my groin. That was the last straw. I bent down and captured his lips in a kiss.

Xavier's POV

I stood there in shock as Marcus's lips pressed against mine. For a moment, I didn't know how to react. Then, to my surprise, I found myself responding, the intensity of the kiss pulling me in. But it lasted only for a few seconds before I came to my senses and pushed him away forcefully. Marcus stumbled back, hitting the door behind him.

Those few seconds were enough for Marcus to realize something. I could see it in his eyes as he looked at me. He had felt something too, something undeniable. I stood there, shocked and confused, my mind racing.

Marcus smirked, his eyes gleaming with a mixture of triumph and something deeper. "So, the prophecy is true," he murmured, more to himself than to me. "Interesting."

He stepped out of the changing room, leaving me alone with my thoughts. I locked the door behind him, my heart pounding. I didn't understand what had just happened or why I had reacted the way I did. All I knew was that Marcus had an effect on me that I couldn't explain.

I quickly changed back into my clothes, my mind a whirlwind of emotions. As I walked out of the mall, I felt a strange mix of fear, confusion, and a lingering sense of desire. The encounter with Marcus had shaken me to my core, and I didn't know what to make of it.

That night, as I lay in bed, my thoughts were consumed with what had happened. Despite the undeniable bond I shared with Damien , Marcus's touch had stirred something inside me. It was a feeling I couldn't ignore, no matter how much I wanted to.

As the first light of dawn began to filter through the curtains, I finally drifted off to sleep, my mind filled with questions and a sense of foreboding. The road ahead was more uncertain than ever, and I knew that the secrets and lies surrounding us would only grow deeper.
