After what felt like an eternity away, Marcus and I began our journey back to my home. Armed with newfound knowledge from the Prophets, we hoped to reconcile with Damien, to show him that everything would be okay. The journey back was filled with a mix of anticipation and anxiety. We hoped that after all this time, Damien would have calmed down and be more open to listening to us.
We decided that it would be best if I approached Damien alone first. It seemed less likely that he would throw me out if I was alone, rather than with Marcus. But before facing Damien, we needed to visit my parents. They deserved to know what had happened over the past few months.
When we arrived at my parents' house, I was greeted with tight hugs and a barrage of questions. My parents were shocked to hear what I had gone through, but the prophecy itself didn't surprise them. They had known about it, as every werewolf in a higher position did. They were only concerned that it was their child who had been chosen by the Moon Goddess for this destiny.
"Why didn't you tell us sooner?" my mother asked, her voice trembling with worry.
"I didn't want to worry you," I replied, feeling a pang of guilt. "I thought I could handle it on my own."
My father sighed, placing a reassuring hand on my shoulder. "We understand, Xavier. Just promise us you'll be more open with us in the future. We want to help you."
"I promise," I said, feeling a weight lift off my shoulders.
Next, we had to tell Alex and Mia. They had been my closest friends, and I owed them an explanation. When we arrived at Alex's house, Mia was there too, her eyes widening in surprise when she saw me.
"Xavier!" she exclaimed, rushing forward to hug me. "Where have you been? We've been so worried!"
I told them everything, from the prophecy to the journey Marcus and I had undertaken. Mia's eyes filled with tears, and she hugged me tightly, relieved that I was finally opening up to them. Alex, on the other hand, was happy but also protective.
"If you ever hurt Xavier," Alex said to Marcus, his tone serious, "I'll make your life hell."
"I understand," Marcus replied calmly. "I have no intention of hurting him."
Alex nodded, his expression softening. "Good. And as for Damien... I wasn't happy to hear he's your mate, but at this point, I'm just glad you're back to your normal self."
With my parents and friends on board, it was time to face Damien. As I entered the Moonshine Pack territory, the werewolves on guard immediately went on defense mode, trying to deny me entry. Tension crackled in the air until Damien's father, the previous alpha of the Moonshine Pack, appeared.
"Xavier," he said, his voice calm but authoritative. "Follow me to my office."
I did exactly that, feeling a mix of nerves and hope. Damien's father was a wise and respected leader, and I hoped he would listen to what I had to say.
In his office, he gestured for me to sit down. I took a deep breath and began to explain the whole situation, from the prophecy to the journey Marcus and I had taken to uncover the truth. He listened thoughtfully, his expression unreadable.
When I finished, he sighed, leaning back in his chair. "I am not surprised to hear this," he said, echoing my parents' words. "The prophecy is known to those in higher positions. What concerns me is that my son, Damien, has not accepted it."
"He feels betrayed," I said, my voice filled with sorrow. "He thinks I chose Marcus over him."
Damien's father nodded. "I will talk to him, explain that this is destiny. But you must understand, Xavier, that I cannot make any decisions for him. Damien is alpha now, and he must make his own choices."
