Hi guys , this is my very first chapter! I hope you like it. I know it might be a bit slow in the beginning but please bear with me I promise to improve my writing skills:)

The rivalry between the Moonshine and Starlight packs had always been fierce, but it had reached a boiling point in the hallways of Crescent High. Every day was a battle, a constant struggle for dominance between the two packs. As the beta of the Starlight pack, it was my duty to stand by Alex, our soon-to-be alpha, and ensure that we never backed down from a challenge.

Damien , the future alpha of the Moonshine pack, was our biggest rival. He walked through the school with an air of confidence that grated on my nerves. It didn't help that he was popular, both within his pack and among the students at Crescent High. His blue eyes seemed to pierce right through you, and his smile had a way of making people feel at ease. Not that I would ever admit it to anyone, but even I couldn't deny that Damien was undeniably good-looking. Still, he was our enemy, and I had to remember that.

Every interaction with Damien was charged with tension. Alex and Damien were always at each other's throats, their rivalry spilling over into everything from sports to academics. And where Alex went, I followed, always ready to back him up and keep an eye on Damien .

"Xavier, you coming?" Alex's voice snapped me out of my thoughts. He was already halfway down the hallway, his usual entourage in tow.

"Yeah, right behind you," I replied, quickening my pace to catch up. My mind was racing, not just because of the daily confrontations we faced, but because in just two days, I would find out who my mate was. The anticipation was almost unbearable.

As I walked through the hallways, I couldn't help but notice the divide. On one side were the members of the Moonshine pack, clustered around Damien like planets orbiting a sun. On the other, my fellow Starlight pack members, always ready for the next verbal skirmish or challenge. The air was thick with unspoken rules and expectations.

Classes were a blur, each one punctuated by glares and whispered taunts. Even the teachers seemed to sense the rivalry, though they rarely intervened. By lunchtime, the tension had only grown thicker.

"Xavier, over here!" Mia called, waving me over to our usual table. She was one of the few who could see past the bravado I put on.

"What's up?" I asked as I sat down, trying to keep my voice steady.

"Just wondering how you're holding up," she said, her brow furrowed with concern. "You seem a little on edge."

"Just thinking about the ceremony," I admitted. In two days, during the full moon, we'd all discover our mates. It was a moment every werewolf looked forward to, but for me, it carried an extra weight. What if my mate was from the Moonshine pack? The thought both excited and terrified me.

Mia gave me a sympathetic smile. "It'll be fine. Whoever your mate is, it won't change who you are or what you stand for."

Her words were comforting, but they didn't quell the storm inside me. I stole a glance at Damian's table. He was laughing with his friends, seemingly without a care in the world. Did he feel the same anticipation I did? Was he just as eager to find his mate?

"Hey, dreamer," Alex's voice broke through my thoughts again. "You ready for gym?"

"Yeah, let's go," I said, standing up. Gym was one of the few times we could openly compete with the Moonshine pack, and today was no exception. As we made our way to the locker room, I could feel the energy shift. This was our battlefield, and neither side intended to lose.

The gym was buzzing with excitement. Today, it was a game of dodgeball, and the teams were predictably divided along pack lines. As I faced off against Damien, our eyes locked. For a moment, everything else faded away. It was just the two of us, each a representation of our packs' strength and pride.

The game began, and the gym exploded with movement. Balls flew through the air, shouts and cheers echoing off the walls. I dodged and weaved, my focus narrowing to the task at hand. Alex was relentless, going after Damien with a ferocity that bordered on obsession. But Damien was equally skilled, his movements fluid and precise.

At one point, Damien and I ended up directly across from each other, balls in hand. He smirked, and for a split second, I forgot about the rivalry, the competition, and everything else. It was just us, two young werewolves on the cusp of discovering our fates.

"Think you can take me down, Xavier?" he taunted, his voice carrying over the noise.

"Only one way to find out," I shot back, adrenaline pumping through my veins. We both threw our balls at the same time, and the impact reverberated through the gym as they collided mid-air. The game ended in a draw, the tension still crackling in the air.

After the game, as we headed back to the locker rooms, Alex was fuming. "I can't believe we didn't win. Damien's always got some trick up his sleeve."

"He's good, I'll give him that," I replied, trying to keep my tone neutral. The truth was, I respected Damien . Despite our packs' rivalry, there was something about him that I couldn't deny.

As the day drew to a close, I found myself standing at the edge of the school's field, staring up at the sky. The full moon was just two nights away, and soon, everything would change. I took a deep breath, trying to calm the whirlwind of emotions inside me.

"Hey, you okay?" Mia's voice broke through my reverie. She had a way of finding me when I needed a friend the most.

"Yeah, just thinking about the future," I said, turning to face her.

She smiled, a knowing look in her eyes. "It's going to be amazing, Xavier. Just wait and see."

As we walked back to the parking lot, I couldn't help but glance back at the school one last time. Crescent High was more than just a battleground for our packs; it was the place where our lives were intertwined, where we faced our challenges and grew stronger together. And soon, it would be the place where I discovered my mate.

Two days. Just two days until everything changed. The rivalry, the competition, the uncertainty—they all seemed insignificant compared to the excitement and fear of what was to come. As I drove home, I couldn't shake the feeling that my life was on the brink of something extraordinary. And no matter what happened, I was ready to face it head-on.

The night of the full moon ceremony arrived, and the air was thick with anticipation. The entire Starlight pack gathered in a clearing in the forest, the full moon casting a silvery glow over us. The ritual began with chants and prayers, a time-honored tradition that connected us to our ancestors and the spirits of the forest.

As the ceremony progressed, I felt a sense of calm wash over me, a reminder of the strength and unity of our pack. And then, it was time. The moment we had all been waiting for. One by one, we stepped forward, each of us ready to discover our fated mate.

My heart pounded in my chest as I waited for my turn, the anticipation almost too much to bear. Finally, it was my moment. I stepped forward, my mind racing with thoughts of who my mate might be. The air was thick with anticipation as the ritual continued, and then, I felt it—a pull, a connection that was stronger than anything I had ever felt before.

I turned, my eyes locking with Damien's . Time seemed to stand still as the realization hit me. My mate, the one I was destined to be with, was none other than the future alpha of the Moonshine pack.

My inner wolf screamed, "Mate!" the word echoing through my mind, filling me with a mixture of shock and disbelief. How could this be? Damien , my biggest rival, the person I had been taught to see as my enemy, was my mate?

I could barely process the implications as I stood there, frozen in place. Damien's eyes widened, mirroring my own shock. This was the last thing either of us had expected, and yet, there was no denying the bond that had formed between us.

The ceremony continued around us, but for me, everything else faded away. All I could think about was the revelation that had just turned my world upside down. The rivalry, the competition, the hatred—it all seemed insignificant compared to the connection I felt with Damien .

As the realization settled over me, a sense of dread and excitement mingled in my chest. This was only the beginning of a journey that would challenge everything I had ever known. And as I looked into Damien's eyes, I knew that nothing would ever be the same again.
