I was woken by loud voices outside the shed, the echoes of anger and tension cutting through the early morning stillness. Blinking the sleep from my eyes, I realized Damian was no longer next to me. Panic shot through me, and I quickly sat up, straining to hear the argument unfolding outside.

Carefully, I tiptoed to the small window, peeking through the gap in the curtains. Damian was standing in the clearing, his body taut with rage, facing a man I didn't recognize. The stranger seemed calm, almost amused, while Damian looked like he was about to explode.

"You will regret this later," the man said, his voice carrying a sinister edge.

Damien's fists clenched at his sides, his entire frame trembling with barely restrained fury. Suddenly, he turned and saw me standing there, my heart pounding in my chest. Without hesitation, he ran inside, his expression a mix of anger and concern.

"Xavier," he said, his voice harsh and aggressive, "forget what you saw. Don't tell anyone about this."

I stared at him, shocked and confused. His tone softened when he saw my reaction, his eyes pleading.

"Please," he continued, his voice now gentle. "I don't want you to be in danger. Trust me, Xavier."

I nodded slowly, my mind racing with questions. Who was that man, and what had he meant by his threat? But I knew better than to push Damien for answers right now. The tension in his posture and the worry in his eyes told me this was serious.

We gathered our things quickly, the weight of the encounter hanging heavy between us. As we headed back to the main part of the forest, we moved in silence, the bond between us thrumming with unspoken concerns and fears.

---

When we reached the edge of the forest, Damien stopped, his expression conflicted. "We need to split up here," he said. "It's safer if we don't arrive together."

I nodded, understanding the necessity even though it pained me to be apart from him. "Be careful," I said, my voice filled with worry.

"You too," he replied, his eyes softening as he looked at me. "We'll figure this out."

With one last look, we went our separate ways. As I approached my house, I could see Mia and Alex waiting on the front porch, their expressions a mix of relief and concern.

"Xavier! Where have you been?" Mia exclaimed, running up to me. "You never leave without telling us. We were worried sick!"

"I'm sorry," I said, trying to keep my voice steady. "I just needed some time alone to clear my head."

Alex crossed his arms, his brow furrowed. "This isn't like you, Xavier. You've been different lately, distant. What's going on?"

I took a deep breath, the weight of their concern pressing down on me. I couldn't tell them the whole truth, not without risking everything. But I had to give them something.

"I've just had a lot on my mind," I said, choosing my words carefully. "With school, pack duties, and everything else... it's been overwhelming."

Mia's eyes softened, and she reached out to squeeze my arm. "You know we're here for you, right? You don't have to go through this alone."

"I know," I replied, forcing a smile. "Thanks, Mia. Thanks, Alex."

They exchanged a glance, clearly not entirely convinced, but they didn't push further. For now, that was enough.

The day passed in a blur, my mind consumed with thoughts of the encounter in the clearing. Who was that man, and what did he want with Damian? The words he had spoken echoed in my mind, filling me with a sense of dread.

That evening, as I lay in bed, I couldn't shake the feeling that something was terribly wrong. Damian's warning replayed over and over, and I knew I had to be careful. Whatever was going on, it was dangerous, and I couldn't risk putting anyone else in harm's way.

I reached for my phone, my fingers hovering over the screen. I needed to talk to Damian, to understand what had happened. But I hesitated, knowing that contacting him might only complicate things further.

Instead, I sent a simple message:

**Xavier:** I'm here if you need to talk. Stay safe.

I hit send and placed my phone on the bedside table, my heart heavy with worry. As I drifted off to sleep, the bond between us pulsed with a mix of fear and determination. No matter what lay ahead, we would face it together. The connection between us was unbreakable, and nothing could stand in our way.
