Arabel's POV
Darting my gaze around, I realize the reason why he brought me here.
Outside the transparent window, there is an overview of a beautiful beach. There are people beside it sunbathing.
“I see you love it.” His murmurs make me turn my head away from the window.
With a smile, I reply. “Yeah.”
He places the tray containing steak and a bottle of red wine in between us, making me bounce my gaze from the meal to him.
“Lunch,” he only says before sitting back and relaxing with folded arms.
Since he told me about Alex this morning, I have been in a terrible mood. I told him to give me some space to let everything process in my head.
First, Alex took Daisy without my knowledge. And now, he is trying to sabotage my relationship with Richard by planning with Eve.
Not only did he do that, but he even went so far as to marry and impersonate Richard.
I should have known the moment he said almost everything about Richard's meeting with Eve. I should have suspected him.
Apparently, it was a plan between him and Eve to make me come over and see how Richard would act with Eve. He expects me to be pissed off and come crying to him to explain what I saw.
Unfortunately, I didn't. I got drunk and slept off in Richard's arms.
He might have seen me with Richard that night because he hadn't called me like I thought he would to check if what he said was the exact truth.
No matter how much I think about it, there is this horrible feeling that settles inside of me whenever I look up at Richard and remember his accident.
If Eve planned this, does it mean Alex was also involved?
When the accident happened, I thought of Alex being responsible. If there is a careful driver out there, it is Richard. He doesn't overspeed and always sticks to the traffic rules.
But when Eve appeared out of the blues, claiming to be his wife, my mind drifted slowly from Alex to Eve, who is the culprit.
“Eat,” Richard orders slowly, pushing the plate toward me as he gestures with a raised eyebrow.
Slowly, I pick up the cutlery and begin to eat absentmindedly.
I refused to eat breakfast this morning. When it was past 2 p.m., he forced himself in and asked me to follow him. I never knew he was bringing me here.
If Alex is involved in this, I really don't know what to think of him or how far he would be willing to go to have me.
I had told him clearly that I do not love him. I don't know what else he wants. I can't force my heart to love someone.
Richard is the only man my heart beats for. No matter how hard I try to get rid of my feelings for him, it doesn't work.
When I look up, Richard is watching me. A smile tugged on his face, making my stomach flutter with excitement.
He is staring at me like I am the most beautiful woman.
“I think I found a new hobby,” he mentions, leaning forward with his hand on his jaw as he continues with his intense stare. “Watching you eat.”
A low chuckle leaves my mouth despite the turmoil inside of me.
“You look beautiful eating.”
I roll my eyes at him and drop my fork before asking the one question that has been going through my head ever since.
“Alex,” I mention. “How do you know he is my friend?” He mentioned that earlier, and I didn't think of how strange it was because of the gravity of the news. “Do you remember him?”
He shakes his head, and a frown darkens his forehead. “No, isn't he your friend?”
“That's it. He is. I'm just wondering how you know since…” I trail off, not wanting to remind him of his situation.
“Leo,” he informs quickly. “Leo told me. He had been on Alex's trail before the accident, and he told me everything.”
“I see.” I pick up my fork again to continue eating. The steak is tasty. I would definitely come back here. "You should regain your memory soon. It's apparent that having everyone around to help you understand what has been happening since your accident will definitely help. Caleb, Leo, and Ashley.”
"Daisy, and you too. You guys have been really helpful,” he says, touching my hand on the table, making me stare for a minute before nodding.
“Are you okay now? Do you feel better?” His worried tone reaches my ears, and I sigh.
“I don't know.” I reply honestly. "I truly don't know how to handle all of this. Besides, Alex came to the penthouse last night. I met him there when I got to the penthouse. I have no idea how he got in, but obviously something was amiss the moment I got there. Everywhere was in pitch darkness, and I thought it was probably because you haven't been there in a while and I haven't either. It turned out it was Alex's doing.”
“What did he say?” His eyes suddenly turn cold, replacing the smile on his face.
I shrug indifferently. “It doesn't matter.”
“Tell me,” he insists. “Was that why you were at the club?”
I nod. “He told me to go there, and I did, even though I didn't want to.”
Rage fills his expression as he drags a hand over his hair. I'm sure he is frustrated because he can't do anything to Eve or Alex since he hasn't recovered his memory. He can't make a decision until then.
It makes me want to pull him into a hug and tell him everything is going to be fine.
“I'm going to deal with those two,” he says, gritting his teeth in annoyance, making me push my plate away. I am almost done, but I have lost my appetite.
He raises his brow at me.
“I'm good,” I reply, taking a sip of the wine. “We have no tangible evidence to ensure they get arrested. I asked Caleb to get the dashcam from your car, but it turned out it was already damaged as a result of the accident. I believe all we need to do now is find a way to get any evidence at all. You can't use impersonation as evidence if you haven't yet regained your memories. They will use your loss of memory to their advantage and claim you were there.”
He nods his head. “I understand. We have to think of something else. Leo will reply to me tonight. I'm sure something will come up.”
I continue to watch him struggle with his emotions. What happened last night at the club is enough reason to doubt him, but his actions say it all.
I fought him for going there to meet her, but I knew he didn't love her. Not anymore. It was obvious from the cold way he let her hug him.
His eyes light up with hatred whenever he discusses Eve. If nothing else, the way she just deceived him into believing they were married is enough reason to hate her.
Now I see the reason why Mother despite her so much.
If mother had allowed Richard to marry her in the first place, I wonder how his life would have turned out.
“Where is Jake in all of this? I thought they were married,” he pauses, staring up at me and looking away quickly.
“Jake Davenport?” I demand, but he does not reply. Mother told me that he was the one Eve was cheating with. I also heard he married Eve after Richard broke up with her for cheating.
“Maybe they got a divorce.” I suggest. “You remember Jake?”
“No!” He responds rather sharply. “I mean yes. No!”
Confusion erupts on my brows. I am about to ask him what he means by no and yes when his phone dings and he rises up. “We should go. I need to meet with Leo and Scott in thirty minutes.”
Nodding, I pick up my phone and stand up. He places his hand on my back and guides me towards the parking lot where he has parked his G-wagon.
I let my eyes glance around the beach area, taking in every single breathtaking thing.
I smile.
“You want to come here some other time?” Richard's voice breaks into my thoughts.
“Yes.” I answer before turning away from the view and slouching into the car. He opens the door for me like a gentleman, making me wonder what it would feel like to have him treat me this way every single day of my life.
I had never seen this romantic side of Richard. It makes me want to rethink my decision to date him after he has fully recovered his memory.
Watching his handsome face, he turns and goes over to the driver's side. When he enters, I ask him. “Are you okay with driving?”
He chuckles, his voice reverberating down my spine. “You didn't ask that on our way here.”
I wonder if driving isn't traumatic for him. If it doesn't trigger flashbacks or remind him of the accident.
I didn't ask him if he was okay with driving because, on our way here, I was in a foul mood. It was a quiet ride with me looking out of the car window until the car halted and he asked me to come out.
“I’m fine. No flashbacks. Nothing. I'm cool.”
For a moment, I want to ask him why there are no flashbacks. Aren't those what he needs to get his memory back? However, I keep silent, not wanting to ruin his mood.
The car starts, and I look out of the window.
Daisy is at Ashley's. Because of Alex, I don't plan to go back to the penthouse anytime soon. I can't risk having him scare Daisy or me again.
I must stay by Richard's side until he regains his memory, and we have both of them in custody.
Since Richard intends to meet with Leo in thirty minutes, I won't ask him to drive me to Ashley's. I'll go get my car and drive there to meet Daisy.
Then we can come home together.
When I turn to face Richard, I find him staring at me. He doesn't glance away, and I want to tell him to watch the road when he stops abruptly, grab me roughly, and kiss my lips in a hungry-like way before pulling away as quickly as possible.
With his eyes locked on mine, he blurts out quickly. “Arabel, let's get married.”
My heart leaps.
“Let's get married again!” He repeats impatiently.
