The Battle Trial eventually comes to an end, and naturally, the first thing you do once you head back to the main building is look for Izuku in the infirmary.

"Izuku! Are you okay?"

He's in the middle of sitting upright, and there are bandages all over both his arms-one of which is in a sling.

"Oh... [Name]." A weak smile spreads across his lips. He must be tired, and you can't blame him, after how brutal his battle was. "Hey. I'm guessing class ended?"

"School's out for the day," you nod. "But more importantly, how are you feeling?"

"I'm okay. Recovery Girl's treatment helped. I'm mostly just worn out. I guess you were right about the whole broken bone buddies thing... haha."

You're not laughing. Izuku isn't the same as you. In fact, almost no one is the same as you. When other people get hurt, they suffer the consequences, and even with Recovery Girl's healing, there are certain injuries that just might not be fixable. You understand that his Quirk is difficult to use and it comes at a great risk to his body, but still. It might sound hypocritical, but you wish he would have more concern for his own wellbeing.

"Watching you fight Katsuki scared me," you frown. "There were moments where I swear I thought I would have a heart attack. But I'm glad you're okay. And you did a really good job. You won, Izuku. That's incredible."

"It doesn't... feel like a satisfying victory," he admits. "In the end, I still couldn't control my Quirk, and I threw together a hasty, reckless plan, hoping it would work. It was a big gamble. I got lucky, and Uraraka helped secure the weapon. But when I was fighting Kacchan one-on-one, I felt overwhelmed. I couldn't even hold a candle to him. It reminded me that I still have a long way to go."

"Well, it's only natural that Katsuki has an advantage over you. He's had a Quirk for more than ten years." You glance around, just to make sure that Recovery Girl isn't still here. Then, you lean closer and drop your voice to a whisper. "You literally just got your Quirk. And not only that, but it's a super-duper strong Quirk, that your body's still getting used to. You did great. Plus, the more you get the hang of it, the stronger you'll be."

He pauses to let your words sink in, and eventually nods in agreement. It must be difficult for him to envision having ever bested Katsuki at anything, but the fact of the matter is that today, he did win. All of his hard work has finally paid off.

"Let's head back," you say. "I'm not sure if my dad has to stay later or not, but if he's allowed to leave now, do you want him to give you a ride home?"

"M-Maybe not. I still feel like he doesn't like me very much..."

"That's not true. My dad doesn't dislike people for no reason. The only person he doesn't like is Katsuki, because Katsuki's a stinky butt."

Izuku chuckles tiredly as you walk together, but even though school's officially over for the day, what greets you is far from a quiet classroom.

"Midoriya, hey! Great job back there! We couldn't hear what you were saying, but that was a really heated standoff, man!"

"The first match was so intense that it fired all the rest of us up!"

"Yeah, and you dodged like a champ!"

Several of your classmates are now crowding around Izuku, singing his praises seemingly without pause. They're all impressed with his performance during the Battle Trial, and even though none of their compliments are directed towards you, your chest still swells with pride.

I have the coolest best friend ever.

A bunch of them proceed to introduce themselves, and you happen to catch their names-Kirishima, Asui, Tsuyu, Satou, and perhaps a few more you might've missed in passing. You're excited for Izuku, because as much as you love being his closest friend, you've always wanted him to have more friends. It's what he deserves, after all.
