After[Undertale]

Ch10-An odd fashion choice...

Eventually... we left Toriels' and started the treck through Snowdin. We found a lamp which Jynx commented was pretty "inconveniently" shaped, I mean it is pretty wonky, now I think about it.

Getting through Snowdin was...being pretty annoying to say the least, most of that being owed to the fact that Papyrus' puzzles (no, not jigsaw ones, do you really not understand how to use context to figure it out yourself??) still being activated ...because as I said...they literally have no built in "off" switch.

Not to mention the cold, but that seemed to bother Jynx more than me. I suggested that maybe we could raid one of the nearby shops because I've seen some coats and stuff in there before,  Jynx seemed very eager to go through with this idea.

"Sooooo you go to the shop over there and I'll figure out how to get around this..." I gesture towards the puzzle in front of me.

Jynx leaves to go to the shop and I make a start on figuring out how to make it safe for Jynx to get past this.

I look in the direction that Jynx left from but they're already long gone, ugh they better not get themselves killed or something...

Eventually though they come back wearing a fushia hat as well as a puffy, muted-pink coat, this being the same colour as the bag they fell down here with.

"Hey!" They announce that they're back, as if I hadn't already noticed them.

They walk over and now they're getting closer I can see that they are holding something behind their back...I tilt my head slightly.

"I thought I'd get you something too, soooo..." they then take out what they'd been holding behind their back with a grin on their face. They got me something... why?

I look down at it, it's a scarf with yellow and green stripes, it's thin enough to wrap around my stem.

Wow.

...that's actually pretty thoughtful. Heh...There was me thinking I was doing a good job at hiding how cold I am (well physically anyway not emotionally) ...I can't remember the last time that someone's genuinely just...done something like that for me...

"It's okay you don't have to pretend to like it...I don't know what I was thinking..." they mumble.

I realise I'm frowning... I don't think I've ever not been smiling around them, it's pretty much reflex at this point. Right now I'm feeling gratitude or... my version of it anyway.

"No no...it's not that I don't like it... it's just been a... a long time since someone's just given me a gift like this..." I turn my expression into my signature smile again, realising they'd probably misinterpreted my frown as not liking the scarf. At my confession, they give me a sad look.

I take the scarf from their hands, using one of my vines, and wrap it around my stem. I probably look ridiculous wearing the cowboy hat and scarf at the same time but I honestly couldn't care less (which is a pretty common theme with me).

"Sooo does that mean you like it?" They ask hopefully.

"Yeah, uh thanks..." I grin at them, before popping under the area the puzzle used to block (which I had long ago sorted out while they were in the shop) and reappearing at the other side.

We walk past a random multicoloured mosaic floor, which for the life of me I can't even remember what that was even supposed to be for, as well as some tic tac toe games on the floors? I forgot how strange some of Papyrus' puzzle choices were... I mean he is the guy that didn't even add "off" switches to them so I don't even know why I'm surprised at this point. Like Toriel's puzzles are just switches and pressure plates because she stuck to what worked but Papyrus' are experimental to say the least...

We eventually decide it's getting late, so we make another stop, deciding to stay at Sans place for the night, because they looked tired and there aren't many good places to stop in Waterfall anyway...I don't really think Jynx would fancy spending a night in a cave.

After a while, Jynx gets bored and goes off to have a look around the place. Eventually, they come back holding a thick looking book.

"Heeeey...um Flowey can I keep this?"

She holds up the book and the title reads: "❎✋☠️👆👎✋☠️👆💧❄️☼︎✌️☠️💧🙁✌️❄️✋🏳️☠️👌🏳️🏳️😐". I automatically translate it to "Wing Dings Translation Book (it's actually all in caps but I don't really think the titles meant to be yelling at me).

"It means Wi-"

"Wing Dings translation book, yeah I know,"

"Wait...waitwait...you know how to...wooooah," heh they seem impressed.

"Yeah one of the monsters who visits has been teaching me...but yeah, you can keep that book, you can honestly keep most of the stuff you find down here, if a monster wanted to keep something that badly they would've taken it to the surface,"

Sans had decided to start teaching me Wing Dings to help me pass the time a few months ago. I've gotten pretty good at it actually.

"Coool! Thanks," they grin as they start to flick through the book.

"Who knows maybe you could get Frisk to learn and then pass notes in class or something?" I suggest with a mischievous smirk.

The image in my head of that sounds pretty funny.

...alsooooo the idea of Frisk getting in trouble sounds like pretty good payback for their infrequent visits.

"Ha that sounds awesome!" Jynx agrees with my idea as they continue flicking through the book enthusiastically. I turn on the fire and go to take off my scarf, I'd honestly forgot I'd left the thing on for that long. Before I take it off I look in one of the mirrors and yeah...I look just as ridiculous as I thought (with my cowboy hat and scarf combo...) but... I honestly don't mind because...I don't care...

Okay okay...maybe it's not just that I don't care maybe it's because that scarf means a lot more to me than I'll ever actually say out loud.

A/N: hey! This chapter was a really fun write, honestly the longest part was probably finding that Wing Dings translation lol. Also the mental imagine of Flowey wearing a scarf and cowboy hat at the same time is pretty funny, I may have to draw it at some point. From now on my references will all be in a separate page (check ch9 for the full explanation and if you're from the future the page is already up!) so all I have to say for now is that I hope you're enjoying this so far and as always all your votes, comments and even just reads mean a lot!

P.S: yeah I know I said daily chapters but I got a lot written so here's this lol
