"You can just drop me off here at the gate. I'll deal with security. Thanks for the ride. And drive safely, text me when you reach home," I said to Perez.

"Always do," smiled Perez, adding, "have a good night, Dia. I love you."

"Love you too, Rezzy. Don't forget. Text me okay." I reminded him before he and I went our separate ways.

From the distance my eyes scanned the three new faces of men that stood in black that possessed weapons at their side with a duty of guarding the property. I always thought this was extreme of my dad but he saw fit. One gentleman in particular came up to me as I stood on the other side of the gate and he asked me for my name.

"Kendia Brown." I answered.

"Wait here," said the new guy as he left to go into the booth and must've called my mom or dad for confirmation before he opened the gate for me. I muttered a 'thank you' then continued walking up the steep hill with my head down in deep thought.

"Dia? Is that you," said a voice that I recognized and that made me look up.

"Hey." I waved.

He closes his car door then walks up to me with his hand in his pants pocket, and says, "hey."

"What are you doing here?" I frowned.

"I came to see your brother but he's not here, neither is he at his house. I tried calling him dozens of times but he's not answering. I guess I'll have to pass by tomorrow morning to speak with him. Hopefully he'll be here."

"Okay... well cool. I guess I'll see you around some time," I smiled politely, proceeding to walk away but he caught me by my forearm and said to me...

"Hey, uh...Dia?"

"Sup?"

"I'm just curious to know what you're doing here so late at night," he asked, I guess to start up a conversation.

"Have you ever heard that curiosity killed the cat," I sarcastically replied while tilting my head to the side.

He groaned, "Don't change the subject. Why are you here so late? How'd you get here? And please tell me why you don't have warm clothing on your body. You can get sick, you know," he says to me, sounding concerned.

"It's only 9:45, so it's not too late. And I'm here because this is my parents house of course and that means I have the privilege to come over at any time. And as for the rest of my clothes and my car, I don't have it. They're both at home."

"So how'd you get here? You didn't walk in this drafty weather by any chance, right?"

"First of all, what's it to you? Secondly, I'm not cold. Th--"

"You're not cold?" He scoffed, "Yeah right. So tell me why were you rubbing your arms a while ago?"

"Because I-I," I stuttered as I tried to rack my brain for a good lie but I came up short, so before he said something else I quickly speed walked towards the front door as he continuously called out my name but when he shouted out my middle name that made me stop because you'd have to be very close to me to know that.
