'Ding dong' the doorbell rang.
''I'll get it,'' Kenya says, before rushing to exit the room, returning a few seconds later, announcing, "It's just Aria and some other people," then she took back her seat.
Some other people?
"Who people?" Kenyon asked, taking the words right out of my mouth. "Mom, you invited someone else," he asked her.
"Not to my knowledge." She responds. "It's probably just one of the neighbors."
Just then Aria appeared in the room.
"I'm sorry for being late, guys," said Aria. "The car broke down at the end of the corner and there happened to be two guys that were headed in this direction that were nice enough to tie my car to their truck and bring me here. They're outside untying it now. Oh, and Kenton, the guys asked for you."
Both my dad and brother looked up.
Aria said, "Not you d-- I-I mean, um, not you Kenton Sr."
"Do you know they're names?" Kenton, my brother asked her.
"I don't. All I knew was that I needed the car to be towed." She said nonchalantly, taking a seat next to Perez.
Everyone looked at her like she's a lunatic.
Perez shook his head, saying, "why didn't you ask for their names? Suppose they weren't so nice and decided to rape you or something? What would you tell the police? That's if they would've let you live to tell the story of course."
"But they didn't, right," she said angrily, getting agitated with him.
Dreya asks, "so, why didn't you call one of us? I could've had Kenton come."
"Also I drove. I could've came for you," I added.
"I didn't want to be a bother. Can you guys just leave it alone?" Aria says, shutting them down.
"Whatever. It's your life. We can't care if you don't," said Dreya, shaking her head displeasingly.
Perez frowned as he turned and said to Dreya, "So when did you and Kenton get so comfortable and close enough for you to ask such favor of him? Are you guys together," He squinted his eyes and now that question really got my attention and everyone else's apparently. I was definitely all ears, awaiting her response.
"No," she denied rather quickly.
"Lies," uttered Marcus playfully between a fake cough.
"I'm not lying," said Dreya.
"Yeah right," said Alissa. "We see how you two interact with each other. I say there's something more. Don't you think so, Abby?"
"Definitely," Abby said with a smile.
"No," said Dreya. "There's nothing more."
"Mmm. So you say," said Kendricka.
"I'm serious, guys."
