Can gathered all his equipment that made up his make shift dark room. He started to lay everything, only realizing now how long it had been since he actually developed anything himself. Can was elated to be able to finally dive back into his world and share it with Sanem.
"It's so much more than the photos," Can blurted out as he was setting up the trays.
"What do you mean?" Sanem asked curious to understand Can a bit more.
"This is the art, " Can said with a twinkle in his eyes pointing around the room, "This is my art. The developing, the paper, the ink I use when I'm printing photos. It all creates the piece."
Can continued whistfully,"Being able to take a picture with a camera is an amazing feeling. It is almost like the camera is a direct connection to my soul and words are no longer needed to tell my story. But what makes the picture a photograph for me? It's how I can create that image from my lens to the paper, where the world can connect with it. And that is what makes it art."
Sanem touched the paper Can picked out. She felt the texture and how different it felt from regular computer paper. She looked up at Can seeing the joy and the awakening of spirit that Can had with his photography. It brought an energy to him that she missed seeing at his studio photoshoots. Sanem couldn't hold back her smile as she discovered something new about Can. It always made her feel special learning something new about him. Sanem loved that feeling of thinking she knew Can, only to discover another part of him.
Can observed Sanem lost in thought, as if she was having a conversation with herself. She began to smile and Can wished he could know what was going on in her beautiful mind. Was it amusement? Curiosity?
He couldn't take the silence anymore and finally blurted out with a smile, "What are you thinking about?"
Sanem blushed shaking off the question, "It's nothing."
"No tell me," Can said with persisting yet jovial tone. He was desperate for her thoughts.
Sanem felt the paper in his hands one more time and then looked up at Can, "It's just that...what you said about your art... that's how I feel when I'm writing."
This admission was everything to Can and he couldn't control the breathe leaving his lungs. Can and Sanem were so different but at the same time they were so much alike. The passion and love that they felt for their creative outlets is what drew Can to Sanem in the first place. It became so clear in his mind that: beyond their first kiss, beyond her perfume that he couldn't get out of his mind, beyond their first encounter where she had the guts to call his nepotism out, beyond their heady collisions in the office that allowed him to smell her scent once again, Beyond all of those moments, they both had this need for their creative side. It was what made them feel the most alive. This realization made Can weak in his damn knees and he wasn't too proud to admit that to himself. He never thought he could ever fall so hard for someone and he felt lucky that it was with Sanem.
