The story was special. The legend was powerful.
There were moments or story lines I desperately wished for, and moments that at times seemed small but were so important to discover and delve into. This is a book of these moments that I wanted to ex...

Can was surprised and impressed by Sanem's candor with her mother. He never thought Sanem would really admit to being alone with him, especially not for a few days. It always hurt Can when Sanem would pretend their relationship was less than what they were. They always had to sneak around and lie to the people he cared for, all for the sake of image and what the Mahalle would think. Finally, Sanem was taking a stand for their relationship and Can could not be prouder. Can always believed honesty was the most important thing in a relationship, and here Sanem was telling her mother everything right from the start. Can watched as Sanem appeared more confident with every sentence she spoke. He watched her grow up on that phone call. Can took this as a sign and was hopeful that this time he and Sanem would get it right.
Can prepared some cay to celebrate their new beginning in their classic 'Can and Sanem' way. As he was filling the pot with water he imagined what it would be like for those next 3 days; relearning every part of Sanem, every touch, the air around her. Can needed Sanem to bring his senses back to life. Can knew that the next three days wouldn't just be hugs between kisses; they still had a lot to talk about and work through. But he knew in his soul that they would work through it, they had to.
Sanem returned to the Cottage letting out an air of relief, "My mom knows."
Can nodded with a smile while he lifted up the pot, "Cay?"
Sanem smiled, "Yes i would love some."
Sanem sat down on the couch feeling lighter, as if a boulder had been lifted off her shoulders.
Can felt her smile ease his nerves and he poured her a glass. Although cay is a drink for the masses, in these moments, it felt like it was just theirs.
"I'm proud of you," Can said softly as he handed her the glass.
Sanem held Can's hand as she took the glass from him and blushed, "I'm proud of myself too." Sanem felt different now that she told the truth. Lying had always been her protection but really it always made her anxious and uneasy. Knowing she didn't have to hold on to a lie, made her feel at peace. She felt free.
Can smile widened as it was rare but beautiful when Sanem would give herself true praise. She so often doubted herself. Can grew pensive as he realized he often was the one who made Sanem doubt herself whenever he was upset at her. It made him sick to his stomach to think about how he treated her the past couple of months. Can vowed to himself in that moment to never be the one to make her doubt herself. He will do better. He will be better.
Can joined Sanem on the couch, in a silence lost in their own thoughts as they sipped their cay. The cay warmed Sanem's insides. The more she sipped her cay, the more she felt relieved being her authentic self with her parents. She vowed to never apologize for being herself again. She looked over at Can lost in thought and she just stared at him soaking him in. His eyes pensive, his jaw clenched thinking about something serious.
