CHAPTER FOURTEEN
See You SoonLorelai, Ethan, and Luther were sitting outside of a pub. Lorelai, as per usual, was drinking coffee and now she had a band-aid across her jaw, per Ethan's request. She couldn't deny that she was warming up to him, but there was still that girl that wanted to hate him so much.
"Reach your folks? How are they feeling?" Luther asked both Lorelai and Ethan.
"Well, mine currently hate my guts and are dead, so..." Lorelai shrugged.
"About what?"
"The apology from the Justice Department, VIP treatment... you know, the whole nine yards."
Ethan smiled, shaking his head. "Well, my mom was a little confused how the DEA could mistake her and Uncle Donald for a couple of dope smugglers in the Florida Keys." Ethan and Luther clinked their glasses of beer while Lorelai just laughed.
"What was that?" Luther questioned.
"What was what?" Lorelai asked.
"You just laughed. Lorelai, in all of the time I've known you, you have never laughed." Luther addressed.
Lorelai set her coffee cup down and crossed her arms. "I laugh—"
"When?" Ethan wondered, which resulted in her flipping him off. Now Ethan cracked a smile. "To you, Luther, for being off the disavowed list. And to you, Lorelai, for listening to an order for once and helping IMF."
"Hey, I'm the flavour of the month. Why don't you come back with me?" Luther suggested to Ethan.
"I just... I just don't know why I'd be doing it. Lorelai and I both got flights to catch. So how's it feel to be a solid citizen again?"
"Man, I don't know. I'm gonna miss being disreputable."
"Well, Luther, if it makes you feel any better... Lorelai and I will always think of you that way." Ethan walked away, patting Luther on the shoulder.
Lorelai stood up, looking at Luther. "Thanks, Luther."
"Hey, anytime, any place." Luther replied.
Luther looked at Lorelai, then at the back of Ethan. "You like him."
"No I don't. I gotta go. Ranford will probably contact you soon." Lorelai told him, catching up to Ethan with her duffel bag.
"I got you better tickets."
"What?"
"You were stuck in economy. And really awful economy." Ethan told her. "So, I changed your ticket." He said as they walked into the airport. Once they got near their gates, they were starting their goodbyes. Ethan bit his lip. "I'm gonna miss you, Lorelai." He said.
Lorelai stayed silent, not looking at him. She didn't want to admit that she'd miss him too.
"I stuck the home phone number in your jacket pocket." Ethan told her.
Lorelai looked at the planes lifting off the tarmac and felt her heart drop. "If you ever need an actual agency to help you, I snuck the number in your jacket pocket." Lorelai replied.
Ethan laughed.
"And I can't believe I'm actually saying this, I'm gonna miss you too, Ethan."
"Aw, isn't that sweet— wait, did you just say 'Ethan'."
"No."
"Yes, you did. You said 'I'm gonna miss you too, Ethan'."
"Shut up." Lorelai said.
Ethan brought her in for a hug, laughing at the way she continued to curse at him. But she did subtly hug him back, then she pushed him away. "I'll see you around, sweetheart." He smirked.
Lorelai went back to glaring. "I'm gonna fucking kill you, Ethan."
"Love you too."
Awww, she loves him and hates him at the same time—
And them sneaking the numbers in each other's jacket pockets... soulmates
Okay, bye!
