"I don't know if I can leave her here like this." Mia whispered as she shut the bedroom door.

Reece looked to her in compliment for a moment, "It'll be okay, Auts here and well she is," he paused before thinning his words, "the guard dog."

Mia inhaled deeply ignoring his judgemental tone, she contemplated heavily before finally letting go of the door handle, "Just for a few hours right?" She asked, rearranging the pins in her braid.

Reece nodded, "Just for a few hours."

Charlotte heard them leave and she curled further into herself, it was her daughters birthday today and she couldn't keep the grief at bay.

She lay in a sea of grief, the current was strong and each time she tried to clear her mind a wave of despair would pull her back under.

She let herself drown in it.

She was normally strong, the day she had watched Sorscha die was the day that changed her. The day she promised herself to never be vulnerable, never be hurt. To stop looking for the light.

She sometimes grieved for the woman she once was, the woman who looked for the best out of the worst, the woman who would of never believed that failure was an option.

But the apocalypse only grew stronger and fiercer and she believed that deep down, there was no hope for them, she would put on a false act of pessimism when the others spoke about what they would be doing once it was all over.

She shut her eyes and she let herself sob, she sobbed until a migraine started to form violently in her head, she squeezed her eyes shut as her sobs slowly subsided into silent cries.

She let sleep embrace her coldly and she drifted slowly into unconsciousness.

Carly was watching Marjorie intently, she was teaching Jodie self defence, or at least trying.

"No Jodie! You need to kick you leg like this." Marjorie huffed as she demonstrated.

Jodie cocked her head to the side, "I don't get it Marj."

Carly looked to the side to hide her humoured grin.

Marjorie stood upright in a fit of rage, "Don't call me that ever again." She lowly remarked.

Jodie was about to question why but her attention drifted to the nearby river and she was off in seconds.

"Jodie! I give up, I actually give up." Marjorie sighed putting a hand to her face and slumping down onto a log beside her.

Carly walked over and sat next to her.

It was silent for a few minutes before Marjorie noticed Carly's vacant expression.

"What's wrong love?" Marjorie asked concerned.

Carly inhaled deeply, "Just thinking about Char today."

Marjorie reached out her hand and placed it on hers, "I know love we all are."

Carly scoffed slightly before looking over to Jodie who was dipping her hand into the water, and gasping in fascination, "I don't know about all."
