LEVI'S POV
Everything had gone dark. Pitch black. Levi's entire body ached, but it didn't matter to him. In that moment, nothing mattered to Levi - they had taken you. They had taken you right before his eyes and he was not able to protect you.
Had he, after all these years, truly gotten that weak? Humanity's strongest soldier couldn't save you. What a big fucking joke, he thought.
How many of them had broken into the room that night? Fifteen? Twenty? He couldn't recall. All he could think about, as he laid on what he assumed was dirt, was your face as they took you. How you looked into his eyes, eyebrows furrowed and fear completely taking over your expression.
That image alone broke him, almost as much as the thought of what they could possibly do to you. At that moment, as he laid on the ground with his eyes still closed, he knew it. He knew then he was useless. Useless in all of this. Useless when it came to protecting you, or anyone for that matter.
Wasn't that what had been happening all of his life? Just not being able to save anyone he truly cared for. He then thought of Erwin. He thought of Hange.
Fuck.
Where the fuck am I? he thought to himself as he slowly opened his eyelids.
Levi fully expected to had been left in an eerie, remote place, far from anyone or anything. He was surprised they didn't kill him to begin with. But what he saw, as soon as he opened his heavy eyes, completely shocked him.
They had left him right by the Jaegerist's training head quarters.
What the fuck was this? Some sort of sick joke?
By the look of the sky and clouds, it was still well past midnight. Levi slowly stood up as mud completely decorated his clothes and skin. He knew they had hurt him good as he patiently began walking toward the entrance, slightly limping.
Right then, one of the guards that stood by the gates recognized him and yelled something Levi couldn't care to listen to. Soon enough, two more guards got by his side and tried to help him walk, but he pushed them aside violently.
'We need to take him to Dr. Keith, now', one of them demanded sternly. The guards nodded and continued to walk by him without touching him, as Levi limped his way inside the headquarters.
_________
'
You've got to be fucking kidding me', Jean let out in a deep, exhausted sigh.
The old squad had gathered around Levi, who laid in silence on the infirmary bed. Dr Keith had worked on his wounds and bruises and had determined that thankfully, nothing was broken.
Well, nothing except Levi's spirits.
He found himself ruminating as the people around him continued to talk. Everything seemed extremely suspicious and calculated.
They could (and probably should) have killed him. Or at least they should have left him truly fucked up. But they had made the conscious decision to leave him be. And right by the headquarters.
Were they looking for a fight? Were these sick fucks truly looking forward to fighting him and his squad?
Levi abruptly snapped back to reality.
'Twenty men? They've been following us. Who knows for how long. And they left you here...', Mikasa extended a cup of green tea to Levi, but he didn't even look up at her. His thoughts were too troubled with guilt and regret to engage in anything.
'Don't blame yourself, Captain', Armin stood up as he tried to comfort Levi and the rest of the group.
But to no avail. He knew nothing anyone could say would make him feel better. Nothing made sense. He was a weak idiot who couldn't protect you and these sick fucks now had you. They would hurt you, or use you, or who the fuck knows what else they would to you.
And it was all his fault.
'If you blame yourself, we are fucked. No one can beat twenty armed men, Levi', Reiner let out, heoricaly.
Nothing pushed Levi's buttons more than listening to that big idiot trying to be hopeful and optimistic. He then decided to finally look up and glare at the mess of a man Reiner was right in the eye as he slowly spoke.
'I killed dozens of Kenny's men. I killed hundreds, if not thousands of titans. I fucking defeated the beast titan alone. But twenty men come into our room and take her. How does that make sense, you big fucking joke?', his blood boiled as he let out those poisoned words.
Deep down, he knew he was directing his anger unfairly, and who he truly was upset and disappointed with was himself.
'Yes, with ODM gear. And two legs. So what if you are not as strong as you used to be? Is that going to stop you from saving her?', Mikasa's words stabbed Levi's skin as cold-steeled knives.
She had always been good at calling him out on his bullshit. And being an Ackerman, and as strong as she was, she never feared Levi. And for that, he had always respected her. Mikasa cleared her throat, then continued.
'I am sorry Captain, but this is not about you. This is about her. About saving her. And every second we spend here, trying to debate how strong or weak you are, we are losing time. Can we all think of a plan here?', her tone was loud, yet stern.
She had gotten everyone in the group to listen. and she knew it. Suddenly, Levi understood. He understood it would take him a long time to get as strong as he was - if that was even possible.
But fuck, it didn't matter. All that mattered was getting you back safe. You were all that mattered. And his bruised ego and lack of strengh meant nothing.
He would get stronger. Faster. As agile as he once used to be. And he would kill them all. Every single one of them, if that meant getting you back safe.
