YOU
Levi's gaze held an apparent, profound, curiosity, leaving you baffled by the intensity of his reaction to your words. That was probably the most expressive he had ever been around you until then.
As he brushed strands of raven hair from his face, you found yourself captivated by the subtlery of his movements, your eyes tracing every contour of his features. An inexplicable force seemed to tether you to Levi Ackerman, a silent yearning defying rational explanation.
Yet, in true, you were still unable to decipher the thoughts racing through Levi's mind, so you refrained from probing further. What had caused such astonishment in him anyway? Why did your words evoke such a visceral response? Tension coiled in your shoulders, rendering you speechless.
'You... sing?', he muttered.
A prolonged silence lingered between you, punctuated only by the soft hum of the evening air. You observed Levi intently, your gaze fixating on his mouth, lips slightly parted in inquiry. A crimson hue adorned the inside of his lower lip, tempting you with thoughts of its taste.
Your thoughts were completely out of your control, and realizing that frightened you. Shaking off your daze abruptly, you struggled to comprehend the allure he held over you. But you were painfully aware of it. That much was clear.
'I do.'
'What do you sing, exactly?', he inquired sternly.
Levi's impatience was palpable now, as if your response would hold profound significance to him. You couldn't fathom how a trivial conversation about your peculiar habit had sparked such keen interest in him. Had he overheard you? The mere possibility mortified you to no end.
'I... don't know exactly. I've asked people who found me... Jelena, for example, refused to tell me. Other times, I've been too embarrassed to ask.'
Levi fell silent, his gaze returning to the floor as he contemplated your words. Bringing his fingers to his mouth, he appeared lost in thought.
'What is it?', you asked in a whispered tone.
'I think I've heard you.'
A shiver ran down your spine at his admission, his eyes feeling like daggers. A chill of unease began quickly settling in your bones. Besides than embarrassment, you had to admit, deep curiosity gripped you.
Perhaps Levi Ackerman would finally unveil the mystery of your somnambulant serenades. Wouldn't that be funny? However, the furrow of his brow hinted at deeper complexities, injecting a sense of disquiet into your being.
'Could you... would you mind telling me what I sang about?', you asked as you locked your eyes on his, a palpable tension growing between the two of you. But it wasn't the kind of tension you were used to feeling around him: at that moment, it made you dizzy with anxiety and uneasiness.
You abruptly stood up from where you were sitting and began walking back and forth inside
Levi's tent - as if trying to gather your own thoughts through compulsive movement.
Levi regarded you with his deep gaze, his furrowed brow reflecting his confusion mingled with a genuine desire to understand. For a fleeting moment, you found solace in his shared bewilderment, as if the two of you were destined to navigate this enigmatic terrain together.
Levi looked somewhat sympathetic as he began speaking. It was subtle, but you could detect a pinch of softness in his features. And really, you never believed in fate. But that moment felt almost orchestrated: as if all pieces had began falling into place perfectly.
'Do you know who Ymir is?', Levi asked softly.
'Yes, I've heard the stories. I've heard about... Eren', you could feel the anxiety starting to bubble up inside of your chest with even more force, the sound of your own heart beating hard completely feeding the unbearable sensation.
'Do you know anyone else named Ymir?', he asked as he observed your unnerved state.
'No.'
Levi's lips parted once more, this time tinged with concern rather than curiosity. You could tell the subtle difference by the slight furrow of his brow. Placing his fingers over his tightened lips and feeling his own skin, Levi appeared deep in thought.
'Maybe it's just... dreaming. It doesn't have to be more than that', he didn't sound fully sincere as he said those words, and it concerned you.
In that moment you realized you had gotten better at reading Levi: your sudden confession had somehow made him more transparent to you. You could sense his feelings with more ease then.
'It is strange, though...'
'Yes, it is.'
Levi gestured for you to resume to your seat opposite to him, a silent invitation for closeness. Or maybe he could tell just how sick you felt then and didn't want you to collapse onto the ground. Go figure.
As you complied, cradling your cheeks in your hands, elbows resting on your thighs, you couldn't shake the unsettling feeling gnawing at your insides.
The urge to unravel this mystery clawed at your mind, yet the notion of dismissing it as mere dream seemed nauseating.
'I... don't know how to explain this, but... I feel like there's more to this. I don't think it's just a dream. And, to be frank with you, I'm usually pretty skeptical—dammit, I read... science books!', you clasped your face with both of your hands as you gently rubbed your closed eyelids in frustration.
Levi offered a soft sigh, his gaze unwavering as you fixed your eyes on the ground. Encouraged by his silent support, you continued.
'I know it seems crazy, but... I've been having these sleepwalking episodes for years, ever since I've been wearing this pendant.' Clutching the stone tightly, you met Levi's gaze. 'I'm not even sure when I started wearing it; it's been so many years.'
Levi widened his stare, oscillating between your pendant and your hand. Meeting your gaze once more, he appeared incredulous.
'You... don't remember where it came from?'
'No.'
'Have you... ever taken it off?'
'Not that I can remember.'
Levi frowned in apparent disbelief, and you couldn't shake the creeping doubt that he might deem you insane. Doubts assailed your mind, questioning your actions preceding this moment.
Why had you never taken the necklace off before? Was it a subconscious choice, a reluctance to sever the tether to your past? Had you ever eveb questioned it at all?
A solitary tear traced a path down your cheek, swiftly concealed by your trembling hand. You felt uneasy, embarrassed to be getting this emotional in front of him. And fear gripped you, a gnawing anxiety that Levi might dismiss your words as delusions, rendering you an outcast.
Yet, as warmth suddenly enveloped your hand, you looked up to find Levi's gentle yet stern gaze, a beacon of understanding in the chaos of the storm.
'I promise we will figure this out.'
