Elara lay in the medbay, surrounded by the pristine white walls and the quiet hum of medical equipment. The healers and Jedi Masters monitored her closely, their presence both a comfort and a reminder of her predicament. Osha had been granted special permission to visit her, a rare concession made after Master Sol had gone to great lengths to pull some strings. The familiar faces offered Elara a sense of normalcy amid the sterile environment.Osha took a seat beside Elara's bed, her own presence a welcome distraction from the monotony of the medbay. Her expression was a mix of concern and curiosity, though her eyes occasionally wandered toward the white robe she was wearing—a stark contrast to her more casual attire from before. Jecki settled into a nearby chair, her usual playful demeanor present despite the somber surroundings.
As the conversation unfolded, a sense of ease began to settle over the room. Elara's voice broke the silence. "Osha, I've been wondering—why did you leave the Order?"
Osha turned her head toward Elara, the question catching her off guard. "It was a long time ago," Osha began, her gaze distant. "The training was difficult for me, and some of the Masters were concerned about how I struggled to cope with the loss of my family years before. It was a lot to handle."
The room fell into a reflective silence, the weight of Osha's words hanging in the air. To break the tension, Jecki leaned forward with a mischievous glint in her eye. "You know, Yord has this obsession with keeping his robes immaculate. He'll steam them repeatedly if they even get the slightest crease."
Elara's gaze fell to her lap, a hint of sadness touching her features. "That sounds like Master Yord," she said softly. "He always had the most pristine uniform."
Jecki laughed, her amusement clear. Osha's lips curled into a small smile, her eyes twinkling with a mix of amusement and nostalgia.
Elara continued, her tone shifting to one of fond memory. "I remember when Master Yord was newly knighted. He used to flatten out the creases in his robes using the Force so often that his old master had to scold him for using it on trivial things."
Jecki and Osha burst into laughter, the sound a welcome distraction from the heaviness of their conversation.
Osha's eyes softened as she observed Elara. "You're quite observant of Yord. You seem to notice even his smallest quirks."
Elara shrugged, a wistful smile on her lips. "Not really. I was a bit of a loner back then. I came to the Temple when I was only twelve, and I found it hard to mingle with the other younglings because- well, they're lot younger than me. I spent a lot of time in the background, just observing."
Jecki tilted her head, her curiosity piqued. "He's so tidy, but I remember seeing him on the ship with his robes all disheveled. It looked like he had been in a fight. It was so unlike him."
Elara shifted on the bed, her face flushing slightly. She knew exactly why Yord's robes had been in disarray—after their second intimate moment together. The memory made her cheeks burn with embarrassment. Noticing her blush, Osha and Jecki exchanged a knowing glance.
"Are you alright?" Osha asked gently.
Elara cleared her throat, nodding. "Yes, I'm fine."
The conversation was interrupted as the door to the medbay opened, and Master Norin and Master Sol entered. Their faces were marked with a serious, yet hopeful expression.
"Elara," Master Norin greeted, his voice steady. "How are you feeling?"
Elara managed a weak smile. "I'm getting there. What's going on?"
Master Sol stepped forward, his tone measured and reassuring. "The healers have found a way to retrieve the lost fragment of your memory. We may finally learn who was behind the attack and whether there is a connection to Mae."
Osha tensed at the mention of her twin sister's name, her eyes narrowing with concern.
Elara looked at the Masters, a surge of anxiety mingled with hope rising within her. "What do we do next?"
Master Sol's expression softened. "We'll proceed with the memory retrieval process. It might be taxing, but it's crucial for uncovering the truth. We need to be prepared for whatever we might find."
Osha's unease was palpable, her fingers nervously fidgeting with the hem of her robe. Elara could sense the weight of her worry, and though she understood the gravity of the situation, she found comfort in the presence of her friends.
As the healers prepared for the procedure, Elara took a deep breath, steeling herself for the revelations that lay ahead. The journey to uncover the truth was far from over, but with her friends by her side and the support of the Jedi Masters, she felt ready to face whatever awaited her.
