"I still can't believe you're here. How did you even convince your mom that you were at Providence? I mean, I know how because we helped you. The tuition here costs more than Providence and I-"
"Oh, I know. Do you think I'm stupid? I-"
"A little," Minho mumbled beneath his breath.
Minsi spun around, shot him a glare, and rolled her eyes. "She gives me an allowance for groceries, clothes, and basic necessities. I gave up my dorm room and decided to not eat on campus."
"Wait, what?" Han's eyebrows furrowed. "So where are you staying?"
"Haven't figured it out yet. That's a problem to come to terms with after today's classes. I could just drive back home, but I-"
"You'll stay with us," Minho interrupted. "You can have the couch or use the air mattress that I use for camping. Whatever is best, you can use it."
"As long as you don't eat all our good snacks," Han added.
"I'll try my best to restrain myself, but I make no promises. I'll help pitch in with groceries and I wi-"
"No, you won't. If you want to earn your stay, you can wash the dishes and do laundry. Han and I will split the rest of the costs."
"Minho, I-"
"Nope. You already used to stay there a lot last year. It'll be like a year-long sleep over. It won't hurt anything and it keeps you from your mom."
"Thank you."
"No problem."
Han sighed and threw his hands up in the air. "Wow, thanks. I'm so glad that I got to have a part in this conversation too." Minho's eyes narrowed and Han's mouth shut. "Never mind, I'm kidding. Welcome home, Minsi."
The three were making their way towards Professor Bang's classroom. After what felt like years, Suki's death investigation was finally over. The administration sent out an email confirming that the year would resume normally. There were no follow ups, no updates, and nothing about Suki's funeral.
"Let's try this again," Han mumbled as he jerked open the glass door for a lecture hall. "I can't believe this is how we're starting our last year of college. I didn't expect it to literally go out with a bang."
"And speaking of Bang, I fucking hate science. Physical science, chemistry, biology, physics, it's all stupid. The young college professor that every girl swoons over doesn't make it any fucking better."
Their footsteps trailed through the empty hallway. The pair were a few extra minutes early because they wanted to get good seats. Getting into Professor Bang's classes was difficult because most students wanted in them. Not because they cared about science, but because quite a few were thirsting over the professor.
The trio were in their second year of college when Chan ended up securing a job at Acadia University. Apparently, he had a thing for science and he must have had pretty good credentials. He was rather young to be a college professor, at least, in Minsi's head. She thought he would have been more suited as a high school teacher.
"Seems like someone is still pretty bitter because they nearly flunked chemistry last year," Han teased.
"You'd be pissed off too if you tried to get help during open office hours, but girls were practically throwing themselves at him. Do you know how many cleavages I saw? All I wanted to do was get help with a few questions about acids. I wanted to make sure I was doing my shit right and I got fucking blinded my boobs!"
"Are you sure you didn't show up to his open hours just to see some tits? I would because I-"
"You're lucky we're on campus or I'd rock your shit."
"Not to interrupt your dicking around, but as a person with tits, can we calm down? You're making me feel really weird right now. If we run into a person and they hear us talking about tits, I might cry."
"I forgot you grew up as a prude, I'm sorry."
"Hey!" Minsi cried out. She grumbled and crossed her arms over her chest. When she stuck her lips out in a pout, both Han and Minho laughed at her. She rolled her eyes, walked ahead of them, and rushed towards the classroom.
They were always teasing her about growing up conservative. It wasn't her fault that her mom didn't let her date or have guy friends. All of her friends growing up, almost all of them had to be religious. Her childhood was filled with visiting different churches and only having friends sleepover if they promised to go to church with her the next morning.
It was always so frustrating for her. So many kids didn't want to go to church on Sunday mornings and she didn't blame them. She didn't want to go to church either, but she always had to. Her mom dragged her along for, in her words, "the greater good."
Minsi had a thousand other things she'd rather do, but Nari never listened to her. Her daughter was her daughter, a small and defenseless being. She didn't see her as a person, she saw her as a thing she could control. Minsi's father always tried to get her to relax, but the corkscrew up Nari's ass was always twisted far too tight.
When she reached the entrance for Professor Bang's room, there were a few other people scattered throughout the room. Chan was nowhere in sight and Minho and Han rushed after her. She gripped the straps on her bag and began walking up the row of stairs to the back of the room.
Acadia University had over twenty-thousand students enrolled. It was one of the largest universities in the area. The place was loaded with money and the classrooms proved it. When you walked in, there was the carpeted section of the floor. A large whiteboard spanned outward where professors could write notes. A large screen could be pulled down from above and a projector above their heads would play.
There were about twelve rows of seats and each row had ten different seats spanning the row. Most of the classes were pretty decent-sized. For Chan's classes, it was such a fight to get in. Minsi, Han, and Minho personally stopped him at the end of the previous year and requested entrance to his geology class. They each needed one more general science credit and this was perfect.
Minsi's combat boots thudded along the carpeted steps and Han and Minho followed along. She sat directly in one of the middle seats. Han sat on one side and Minho sat on the other. All three began taking out their items to take notes.
"Are we sure we should sit back here? What if we can't see the board?" Han shifted and squinted down at the white board.
"He writes big, remember? We joked about it last year."
"Ah, yeah, I forgot."
"Oh!" Minho leaned forward and lowered his voice. "Right there, that's him. That's Suki's boyfriend." His finger pointed a few rows down.
Minsi's head snapped up instantly and she squinted. Changbin was slumped down in his chair with a black jacket on. A baseball cap was pulled over his head and the shadow shielded his face. She shifted to see better, but she couldn't see his facial features.
Just as she was about to get up, Professor Bang walked in. In his usual dark jeans, he was wearing a red and black hockey jersey over it. "Good morning!" He called out happily. His eyes scanned the seats and then he frowned. "Where is everyone?"
"A lot of students don't check their emails," a girl called out in the front row. "Seems like it's just a handful of us."
He sighed and shook his head. "I'll have to send an email to the administration about this. You three back there-" He gestured up towards the back trio. "Come on!" He waved them towards the front with both hands. "Let's go, I don't bite. Come sit with the rest of us, please."
Minho grumbled beneath his breath, but Minsi didn't object. She grabbed her bag, grabbed the notebook, and walked right towards Changbin. Han whispered behind her, but she didn't hear it. Without another word, she dropped her stuff directly besides Changbin.
Desperate times called for desperate measures and she was going to figure out what he knew about Suki's death.
