My plans usually don't go the way I expect them to, so I'm not too sure what I was expecting walking into the forbidden corridor from first year with Draco Malfoy.
It was silent, which was good. I could recall my friends mentioning a three headed dog and some vicious flying keys or something like that. Thankfully, we ran into neither of these.
The air was tense from the second we walked through the door. I was trying my best to masque my fear in false confidence, and I hoped that it was working. Malfoy was walking about five feet away from me, and I could tell he was doing the same thing.
"Not so scary, is it?" I said cockily.
He turned to me with a look of annoyance on his face and huffed, "You're lucky I don't snitch on you for trying to lure me in here. Could get both of us killed."
I rolled my eyes, "Nothing in here that I can't handle."
"Yeah we'll see just how far that cockiness gets you," he said under his breath, but just loud enough for me to hear.
"What was that?" I asked, because what does that even mean. He just kept walking.
We continued trying our best to act like we weren't nervous until we came along a door that had movement behind it.
He pulled me to the side of the door, shushing me and peering around to the door.
I was totally over this. "Let's just get out of here". I say.
The doorknob jiggles. Oh gosh.
We immediately take off down the hall, not even giving ourselves time to look back. I have never run that fast before. We reach the end of the corridor and hide behind an archway as footsteps approach.
This git behind me is breathing so loud. I can not get caught. I turn around and put my hand over his mouth to shut him up. He harshly glares at me and shoves my hand away from his face while taking a few steps back. I shoot him an intense look to try to get him to be quiet.
The steps get closer. They are so close to us. If we are found lurking, I could lose my Prefect's badge. Heck, we might even get in trouble with Umbridge. With the rumors circulating about her using veritaserum on students, that is the absolute last thing that can happen to me. She can't find out. If she does, bad things could happen. Really bad things. Nobody has ever-
The footsteps are coming up right next to us. I look at Malfoy and panic. This is it for me.
I see him raise his arm slightly, and then throw something down the hallway. A small explosion goes off in that direction. He grabs my arm and before I could even process what just happened I am out of breath again from running so fast.
When we finally get out of the corridor and onto the staircases, we both stop for a moment- realizing that our hours on duty are probably up, and not really sure what to do next.
I process everything that just happened. "You're a bloody genius. But I'll deny it if you ever make me repeat that." I say, smiling lightly up at Malfoy.
"Nothing new." He shrugs and begins to head toward the stairs back to Slytherin hall.
I walk with him, "hey, thanks for that."
He keeps walking without saying a word.
"Where did you even get that? Seriously that was awesome." I continue to walk with him.
"You don't think Slytherin's dabble in the Weasley products?" He asks in a monotone voice almost as flat as Professor Snape's.
I smirk, "Thanks for supporting my family, Malfoy."
