And then everything turned out perfectly fine and everyone got along. That's what I would say if a miracle happened. The scene in front of me was not quite a miracle. I'd in fact say that it was the opposite.
"And what could you possibly be doing with my sister in the middle of the night?" Ron spits out as soon as Malfoy gets to our table.
His face falls from the smirk he had after joking about my slippers. He quickly looked between Ron and I, speechless.
"The portraits like to gossip." I clarified to him.
"You're lucky I saved her ass, Weasley. If your sister hadn't been so irresponsible to get locked out of Gryffindor house then I wouldn't have had to let a filthy Gryffindor into our house anyways," Malfoy hissed. Wow. Guess our moment of friendship is over.
Ron leaned on the table again, but this time in anger. His knuckles turned white from gripping the table, and Hermione put her hand over his to calm him down.
Ron wasn't the only one who was furious. Harry looked pissed too. "How did you get locked out of Gryffindor Lilia?" Harry questioned in an accusatory manner.
I knew I couldn't tell them the truth- that I was wandering the halls with Malfoy during our watch, and ended up being out a little too long.
"I had to-" I began, attempting to come up with an excuse on the spot.
"She was talking to her boyfriend in the Prefect's bathroom. I thought I heard someone out so as a Prefect I had to make sure no funny business was going on. I escorted Miss Gooden back to Gryffindor so that she didn't cause any problems on my watch, but the fat lady was sleeping. It would have been irresponsible of me as a Prefect to leave her out. End of story." Malfoy lied as effortlessly as taking a breath.
"Hm" Ron huffed.
I grabbed a croissant and decided that it would be beneficial for me to remove myself from the situation so I said, "I've got to start prep for the OWLs, meet me later?"
Hermione just nodded while the two boys looked like they had seen a ghost. To my misfortune, Malfoy followed behind me. Not helping at all.
As soon as we exited the hall I turned to look at him, speechless by that interaction, but he had already retreated to the stairs leading to Slytherin house. Well now I guess I better find something to do with myself all day. I'm not actually going to study.
I find myself back in bed since I didn't sleep much last night. I decide I'll have a slow morning to process recent events and then I will find my friends once I figure things out for myself.
What Malfoy said really had me thinking. Here I was thinking we were friends, but then he speaks about me in an insulting way right in front of my face, and says that he only brought me back because it was his duty. I'm not sure what I was thinking, but it wasn't that.
And before he caught me in the bathroom last night Leo had called me his girl. I never even got to think about that. Plus I didn't get to talk to my brother, which I really need to do. I also need to make sure that I don't fall back into my old habits of sleeping.
These thoughts lead me to start drifting off, until I hear a scratching at my window. My owl. With Leo's letter. I had totally forgotten that earlier this week he was asking me if I had received his letter yet. He seemed so nervous.
I open my window and thank my owl for bringing me the letter.
I anxiously open the letter.
Dear Lils,
I am sorry for the night before you left. My timing was off. But I just didn't think you could resist. Haha. Just kidding. Anyways I wanted to tell you that I am officially putting my feelings on hold until we see eachother next. Then we can figure things out? If you want to of course. If not, I just hope nothing changes between us.
