Jeremiah's POV
"Mornin' Mom".
ugh! why did morning have to come so quickly? Truth is, Monday mornings are the worst. I know I'm not supposed to be confessing negativity but that's just the truth
"Oh darling did you sleep well? Have you said your prayers?"
yup, that's Mom's way of saying 'good morning'
"Yes I did and yes I have...where's dad? He didn't join us for prayers this morning" I asked, taking a bottled water from the fridge.
"Of course he's gone to work....."
"Hmmm...that's strange..." I said as Mom raised a brow at me.
"He's a Business man Jerry, such things should not be strange to you. Now go and have a bath or you'll be fine for school!" She said.
"Okay." I said, leaving.
I'm in grade 11 and I'm real busy with getting prepared for the exams that are coming up next month. Yup, I prepare for my exams a month before they start. Pfft! Or do you think it's easy to top the class every semester with competitors In every subject?
Nah...
I took a quick bath and went downstairs to have a quick breakfast before entering the car and the driver sped off.
"Can you please drive faster? I need to meet Nina at the library real soon..." Jemima said as the driver nodded.
"Don't drive past the speed limit, it's not worth it..." I snapped.
"Hey! What gives?"
"Jemi not this again. Those girls obviously don't like you and forcing yourself on them doesn't make any difference - "
"I'm not forcing myself on anyone, Jerry. I'm just not giving up on them - " she said.
"Okay, okay....so until they declare you as their friend, you'll just keep running errands for them right? " I asked.
this's ridiculous
"It's not that....I'm just helping a friend in need, that's all. It's not like I'm their maid or anything..."
She said softly."But they treat you as one...look Jemi, I don't want you to be friends with people who don't value you and treat you like trash and you settle for them just because you don't want to be tagged as a gauche. Stop trying so hard to fit in..." I explained but as usual, she cut me off.
"Stop it, Jerry. Just mind your business. It's easy for you to say just because you're popular and everyone loves you...like people are literally dying just to get you to talk with them..." she said, pouting.
"Don't think like that...I just don't want anyone to make you feel bad because you're different and you chose to do the right thing..."
"Can we not talk about this, please?"
She asked as the driver pulled over in the school's parking lot and she got down immediately, running to the building as she forgot her water bottle on the car seat. I took it and got down, following her at a far distance. She entered the building and went straight to the library and stopped in front of her 'friends' while panting."Oh look, the snitch has arrived." Nina said, sneering as the other girls giggled amongst themselves.
"I'm so sorry Nina, I woke up late..." Jemima apologized.
"I didn't ask you. Where's the home work?" She said as Jemima quickly began rummaging through her bag and brought out some books.
"Good girl. You're really useful aren't you?" Nina asked, smirking as Jemima looked down.
"Megan, collect these from her and submit it. She'll need to get us some drinks right away." She said as a girl collected the books from Jemima.
"Well, what are you waiting for? Go and get us some drinks! " Nina ordered.
"Y-you haven't given me money yet.." Jemima stuttered as Nina burst into laughter.
"So you really think I'll give you my own money? I know you have money, dear. Now be a good girl and get your 'friends' some drinks. Would ya?" She asked smiling smugly as the other girls sneered.
"Okay Nina, I'll be right back." Jemima said, walking to the exit as I rested against the locker door.
ugh! I can feel myself boiling right now...so that's why Jemima usually asks me for money during lunch break...
"And just where do you think you're going? "I asked her as she stepped out of the library.
"Oh Jerry....you scared me! What are you doing here?" She asked as i saw embarrassment on her face. I stretched out her water bottle to her and she grabbed it immediately and turned to go.
"You don't have to do this..." i said but she just stormed off.
☆ ☆ ☆ ☆ ☆ ☆ ☆ ☆ ☆ ☆ ☆ ☆ ☆Okay, okay...I know y'all would be wondering what their conversation is all about.
So, here's what happened...
Jemima once had Nina, Sade, Mia and Temi as friends but let's just say they weren't the right crowd of people she was supposed to be 'cruising' with. They loved pleasure and didn't like any form of inconveniences or anything that would stress them. They were very popular in the school and were like the objects of envy for almost every girl in Golden Crest High. Jemima liked the attention she got as a result of befriending the popular girls and it got into her head so she wasn't really bothered about them skipping classes, picking on others who weren't as rich as them, ditching tests...(even though she didn't really do all those things, she was just like a spectator, kinda)
Long story short, Jemima's friends started cheating in tests and exams so that they could move to the next class and fool their parents with the results and make them get what they wanted. Jemima was like the only smart person in their clique so when she found out, she became scared. Especially with the strict policy their school had against cheating. They would pay some boys to sneak into the teacher's lounge and steal the test questions and they even went as far as deleting the security footage from the surveillance cameras. Jemima knew all these was wrong and would put them all into trouble. The principal later figured that somebody had been stealing the questions but he couldn't pin it on anyone so he said that if anyone knew who the culprits were, they should speak up before the truth comes out or else the punishment would be more severe. Jemima knew what she had to do even if she had never joined them to cheat before, she could land in serious trouble if the principal even found out that she was hanging out with them. She was pressured and she knew she had to do the right thing and tell the truth( apart from being a Christian, she had always had issues from hiding things and she ends up saying it out regardless of the effects - so she's the type to run away from if you ever want to tell someone your secret just sayin').
She went ahead to report to the principal but her mistake was that she didn't do it anonymously so within a few days, everyone knew she was the one who reported the case. Both Jemima's friends and the boys who were paid to do the job were called to the principal's office and expelled - all of them. But because of the influence that Nina's dad had, he was able to get her back into the school. So that's why no one really likes Jemima. Most people see her as a snitch and don't want her exposing their secrets so they just stay away from her. Ever since Nina rejoined the school, she had been trying to apologize for what happened but Nina was bitter and wanted revenge. Nina had new friends but Jemima didn't and she made her life a living hell by tormenting and bullying her with her new friends. Very few people think that what Jemima did was right but they just decide to keep their distance since Nina had done a great job of making her look like a snitch.
