Good morning sir, Mr Brian is here to see you. " the Secretary informed Brown who nodded.

"Let him in." He said weakly.

"Morning Brown. I've got great news for you." Brian said, beaming as he sat opposite Brown.

"What is it Brian? I'm busy..." he said.

"Speaking of that, when was the last time you slept?" He asked.

   "I don't know man...I'm knackered."

"Well you had better get some rest soon cuz you can't meet your solution looking like this..." he said as Brown raised a brow at him.

"What are you trying to say, Brian?" He asked.

"Remember our last conversation? I told you I'll help you find a solution..."

"To the point already." Brown snapped.

"Hey, easy okay? Well, I talked to a very good friend of mine and he has agreed to help you. "He said as Brown's eyes lit up.

  "Really?! Who?"

"Mr Jedediah- " he started as Brown cut him off.

"You mean the CEO of the largest oil company in the Continent?!" Brown asked, his excitement increasing.

"Whoa! I never knew you had such connections! I knew you'd be useful some day." He said, excited.

"What?"

"Ignore that. So when would I be meeting with him? "He asked, rubbing his palms together.

"Well, he wants to meet you this friday and see how he can help you." Brian explained.

"That's amazing. Thanks man."

"Anytime Brown. Wanna grab lunch together?" He asked, standing up as Brown hesitated.

"You know what, that'll be a good idea. Yeah let's go." He said as they both left the office,  laughing heartily.

"Looks like someone's in a good mood today..." Jane said as Brown walked in, smiling. Ever since their last argument when he hit her, they haven't been talking even though Jane had forgiven him. Brown paused in his tracks as guilt washed over him. He remembered what happened the last time he was home.

FLASHBACK....
"Honey, the kids need you. Remember the promise you made? You promised that you would never let your job stop you from carrying out your duties and obligations as a father..."

"Not now, Jane...my plate is full!"he barked, startling her a bit.

"What's the matter honey? I can help you" she said as he scoffed.

"Look Jane, you'll be going for the PTA meeting, not me. I'm really busy at this time."

"But I have a meeting that day- " she said as Brown turned to face her, his blood boiling.

"The reason why I asked you to remain a stay-at-home mother. Those children are your responsibility too. I'm doing all I can to make sure that you all are comfortable and you get all you want and make sure you don't lack anything. But you're still so stubborn and you want to do business- "

"Don't use that as an excuse to cover up for your shortcomings- " she said as he slapped her and pushed her. Jane hit her head and fell to the floor, unconscious.

"Oh my God! What have I done?!"he knelt beside her and felt her pulse. She was still breathing. He dashed out of the room but on his way, he saw Jeremiah standing at the door, with clenched fists and his face looking murderous.

"Son- " he said, trying to place a hand on his shoulder. But Jeremiah's stare made him think twice.

"How could you!" Jeremiah gritted through his teeth.

"Jeremiah- " He knew his son would hate him by now as everyone around him knew his mother was his only weakness. Jeremiah pushed him aside and called one of the maids to get the doctor while Brown left the house in shame.

PRESENT...
"Love, I'm sorry..." He said as he sat beside her. She was at the dressing table, carrying out her regular skin routine. She paused and took a deep breath.

"I don't know what came over me. I-I-I was overwhelmed..." he explained.

"What happened with work?"she asked without looking at him. She didn't want him to see how hard she was trying to hold back her tears from falling.

"I've been having problems at work lately...Brownoil was duped of a large sum of money which we couldn't recover and since then we've been swimming in debts- I couldn't find a solution and I was caught up with work...I felt like I was a failure and the legacy my father created would crumble in my hands if I didn't do something quickly..."

"So, you've found a solution now right? You're happy today. "She said. He sighed and turned her to face him.

"Yes, I have." He said simply.

"That's good news, Brown." She said and stood up to leave.

    "Wait Jane-"

"Josie needs me...I'll be in her room." She said and left swiftly as Brown fell on the bed, feeling extremely sad. Jeremiah wouldn't even look at him in the face; he avoided his father like a plague even though his sisters had embraced him and welcomed him when he came home that day, after two days. He didn't blame him, he knew he was at fault. He just didn't know how long he would hold grudges towards him.
