Jeremiah
"Hey guys!" Amanda greeted as Steven and I smiled at her."What's up with you Amanda?" Steven asked.
"Oh I'm good, thanks. Just busy with this article I'm prepping for the newsletter.
"What is it?" I asked.
"Uhm, I'm not really sure yet. I don't know if I want to do a survey or I should just do a research work..." she said.
"Well what's the topic?" Steven asked.
"What's it like, being a Christian teen in this perverse generation? "
"Wait, the topic is a question? "Steven asked as she nodded.
"What? It's not good enough? "She asked.
"Sounds okay if it's gonna be a Survey." I said, shrugging.
"Well, any ideas?" She asked.
"Nope. You're the head of GCH News club after all, I'm sure you can do that on your own." He said, patting her shoulder.
"Okay guys, that's by the way. Remember we still have to work on our Biology project...it's very, very important..." I said.
"Why? Because they're giving a scholarship to the group that wins? "Steven asked.
"Of course! Besides, it'll boost our grades at the end of the term." I said.
"So who's your partner, Steven?" Amanda asked.
"I'd rather not talk about it..." he said, sighing.
"Why?" I asked.
"Mrs Williams put Cynthia as my partner..." he said as Amanda and I froze in our tracks.
"What?! Did you object?"I asked.
"I did but she said I should tolerate her because I ain't the only one who's not happy about my project partner and she doesn't want to change her mind. "He complained.
"Well, true because I also got paired up with Yvonne." I said.
"But how could she do such a thing? That girl's vain! She doesn't even care about school...infact, both of them don't. " Amanda said.
"Believe me, i tried to make her reason with me but she said i should be happy i got such a partner so i could be a good influence of some sort..." he shrugged.
no wonder why he's been moody all day
"The Lord's your strength brother." I said, squeezing his shoulder as he nodded.
"Just focus on the project, Steven and if she tries any thing funny, I'll beat her to pulp." Amanda said, cracking her knuckles as Steven chuckled.
"Chill Amanda. You know you can't do that..." I said.
"But that girl's every description of Jezebel!" Amanda countered.
" You know you aren't supposed to be judging people, Amanda." I said.
"Dude, you're talking as if you don't know that girl...that's just the truth. We're not judging or condemning her." Steven said.
"What I mean is we would never be able to help her if you keep seeing or treating her like that." I said as they looked at me as though I spewed rubbish.
"Look, we're supposed to be praying for people like her. She needs help..." I explained.
"Obviously..." Amanda said.
"I agree with you on that one..." Steven said.
Cynthia was the only child of her parents and was very famous at school. She was tagged as the 'hookup girl' or 'used product' and other derogatory words but she didn't seem to care and all she and her friends did were to chase after the famous guys at school, show off their flashy accessories and make others feel insignificant.
Pathetic right?
sigh
I know. They were tagged the 'shameless bunch' and they were also famous for organizing one party or the other during the weekends or making fun of other people - like the scholarship students who weren't as rich as half of the school's population and were lucky enough to school here on scholarship. They always stood out amongst other students by adding unnecessary accessories to their uniforms and choking others with their expensive perfumes.
"So what am I going to do now guys?" Steven asked as Amanda and I looked at him, confused.
"You do what you are supposed to do- study with her." She said as Steven sighed sadly.
"It's okay, you don't have to worry. You know what to do if she crosses her boundaries." I said, encouraging him as we noticed a crowd of students gathered in the hallway.
"What on earth is going on there?" Amanda asked, alarmed as we moved closer to them. It was the SS2 divas- Ada, Naomi and Vivian. Their clique was a group of conceited narcissists who also derived pleasure in bullying other students.
"Hey! Pick that up!" Naomi said authoritatively as the girl they were bullying shakily bent down to pick her book for her. But as she was about to stand up, Vivian kicked her, and she fell, hitting her back on the wall.
"Why so slow, huh?" She asked as the girl began to cry, begging them.
I looked at Steven who stood beside me. His fists were clenched and I know he hated this as much as I did. The crowd of students that had gathered were just watching and none even tried to help her in any way. They just watched as she was bullied and no one dared to confront those divas. Steven cleared his throat loudly and everyone turned to look at us, some gasping."What's this?" Steven asked, his voice came out in a deep growl. It startled a lot of them, including Amanda and I as we weren't expecting Steven to interfere.
"Oh...uhm....Steven dear - " Ada, their leader stuttered. She had always been trying to get Steven's attention. She was the girl that had asked Steven out earlier.
"I asked a question." Steven said as they looked away, guiltily.
"Uhm...we just wanted to take our book from her. " Vivian said defensively.
"Don't mind that poor rat, Steven..." Naomi said as Steven stared at them tensely.
"Leave, all of you. Leave now!" Steven ordered as the students scurried away quickly, not wanting to provoke Steven further.
"Steve- " Ada said, moving closer to him as he sent her a deadly glare.
"Let's go girls..." Ada said, her voice shaky as they flipped their hair and sashayed out of the place not before glaring at the girl. Amanda squatted beside the girl who was shaking in the corner.
"Are you okay?" She asked as the girl tried to talk but started coughing.
"I- I- i....." she said as she put her hands over her mouth and Amanda patted her back softly.
"Oh my God! " Amanda yelped.
"What's the matter??" I asked, alarmed.
"B -b-lood." She said. "She's coughing out blood! "
"Quick let's get her to the school's clinic! " Steven said as we helped her up gently.
