"How long have you been standing there Brown?" Mr Jedediah asked as Brown stuttered, clearly still recovering from his shock."W-when were y-you going to tell me?" Brown asked facing him as he shrugged.
"What're you talking about?" He replied.
"Oh stop with the pretense already! What were you talking about on the phone just now?" He asked, feeling anger build up on him as Mr Jedediah sighed.
"I've no idea what you are saying."
"Who's Kyle?" Brown asked as Mr Jedediah looked shocked for a minute. He didn't think Brown had heard anything from him.
"Answer me! Who's Kyle and what 'bodies' were you talking about?" He asked as Mr Jedediah took a seat and poured a drink into his glass before gulping all its contents at once.
"You heard?" He asked as Brown nodded.
"Look, I did for the company. I did it to save Brownoil-" He said, his speech slurring a little.
"What did you do?"
"I took out the community heads." He said as Brown slumped on a chair, trying to process all he had just heard.
"W-what?"
°°°°°°°°°°°°°°Melvin walked to the center table in his living room where he dropped his phone. It had been ringing for a while now and he wondered who could be calling him repeatedly. He paused, shocked when he saw who the caller was.
"Brown?"
He quickly picked the call.
"Hey Brown! .....How are you?. .....It's been a while since we last spoke......okay....so what's up?" He asked, sitting down on his favourite settee.
"listen Mel, I don't know what to do right now...I'm in a mess." Brown said over the phone.
"Okay, I'm listening.. go on" Melvin said, listening attentively as Brown sighed deeply over the phone.
"Come on Brown, talk to me, you know you can tell me anything." Melvin said, trying to get Brown to talk.
"I've made a mistake...I shouldn't have accepted his offer..i-i-"
At this point, Brown's voice was already breaking and Melvin looked disturbed."What exactly is the matter Brown? Where are you now? Can we meet up at some place?" Melvin asked.
"I- i- it wasn't me i didn't do it. I-it was..."
Melvin heard some shuffling.
"Brown hello? You there? Hello?" He asked as he heard faint voices in the background.
"what do you think you're doing?"
"what do you want from me?"
"Cut the call-"
"And who do you think you are, ordering me around, huh? What do you want?"
"It's an order sir, cut the call."
"get out! I would do no such thing! Leave-"
Melvin pressed the phone harder against his ear, and he was able to recognize that it was Browm who spoke last before he heard a loud thud.
"Brown?! What's going on?! Are you okay? Brown, Brown?! Talk to me!" Melvin said, alarmed as he heard a snigger across the phone.
"if you know what's good for you, Never. Call. This. Number. Again."
Melvin heard the menacing voice before the call ended. He dropped the phone and began rubbing his temples to reduce his shock. He knew something had happened to Brown and he was scared for him.
"Dear? "Mide asked, walking into the livingroom as Melvin kept his head in his palms.
what has Brown gotten himself into?
He thought as Mide's voice made him jolt violently.
"Melvin! I'm calling you! What's the matter?" She asked as Melvin sighed and stood up to face her.
"Brown's in trouble. I'll be right back." He said and walked out on her as she looked confused.
"What?! What happened? What did he do? Melvin! Where are you going to?!" She screamed as Melvin entered his car and drove off, leaving a boiling Mide behind.
