Ser Baelon stood before the iron gate, his heart pounding with a mix of excitement and trepidation. The gate's intricate designs seemed to pulse with dark energy, casting long shadows that danced along the stone walls of the Dragonmount. He could hear the distant, rumbling roars of Odin, the gray-scaled dragon whose name had been whispered in hushed tones. Laenys's words echoed in his mind, a promise of honor and a chance to claim his place among the dragons.

Taking a deep breath, Ser Baelon pushed the gate open. The heavy iron creaked in protest, revealing a cavernous space shrouded in darkness. The air was thick with heat and the scent of sulfur. His torch flickered weakly, barely cutting through the oppressive gloom. As he stepped forward, the ground beneath him felt uneven, as though it were alive and shifting.

The rumbling grew louder, vibrating through the stone floor and up into his bones. Ser Baelon advanced cautiously, his eyes straining to make out the massive shape that loomed in the darkness. Odin was not easily visible, but the dragon's massive, gray-scaled body was unmistakable even in the shadows.

"Odin! I have come bearing no harm unto you!" Ser Baelon called out, his voice firm but tinged with a trace of apprehension. He knew that dragons were not easily tamed, and the challenge before him was one that required both courage and patience.

The dragon's eyes glowed like molten gold, piercing through the darkness. Odin's massive wings unfurled with a thunderous crack, and a gust of wind from the dragon's powerful beat nearly knocked Ser Baelon off his feet. The dragon's roar echoed through the cavern, a sound both awe-inspiring and terrifying.

Baelon's body shivered but he swallowed down his fear, Laenys once told him that you should never show a dragon that you are afraid. They will take it for weakness.

He moved slowly, trying to keep his movements calm and measured. He could feel the heat from Odin's breath, a reminder of the immense power that the dragon possessed. His heart raced, but he kept his composure, remembering Laenys's faith in him.

"Easy, boy," he murmured, inching closer. "I am here to earn your trust."

Odin snarled a low, guttural sound that sent a shiver down Ser Baelon's spine. The dragon's tail lashed out, smashing into the ground with enough force to send a shower of stones and dust into the air. Ser Baelon ducked, narrowly avoiding being struck. He thought Laenys said that the beast was accustomed to humans. Was she lying?
