(Bethy's pov)

"Fuck!" Damien cursed in urgency as Charles flunged another body across the room, the situation was deteriorating-fast!, Charles wrecked havoc and caused destruction but the hunger in his deep hollow eyes was prove enough that he wasn't satisfied, he looked across the room and locked eyes with me, the whole ball room and everyone in it seemed to freeze the minute he took his first step towards my direction, my heart thumped loudly in my chest as a sweat glided down my forehead and for that moment I couldn't even feel Damien's presence or hold on me.

"He who starts it must end it,"

A voice whispered near my ear.
I frantically looked to my left, searching for the source of the voice, but found nothing. Instead, I saw the images of dead people laying on the ground, and my vision got blurry. It was happening again, wasn't it?.

"Did you think you could escape the demons, my dear." A voice which sounded like that of my aunt said soothingly, her voice which was coated with evil but was able to lull you into hell disguised as heaven.

"Veronica, we have to leave, Now!" Damiens distant voice said as he tried pulling my feet from the ground, but they were too heavy. It felt as though an iron arm was wrapped around it.

I didn't realise I was in tears till I felt it's drip on my hand, only this time it wasn't tears that were dripping from my eyes but rather thick blood.

With shaky fingers, I reached for my eyes only to realise that my nose was also bleeding.

Charles was five feet away from me when I felt a light surge from within my body, I thought it was only a mere feeling which would pass, but I was wrong as the light orange hue enveloped my whole body and was shot in Charles direction.

A horrifying scream pierced through the air from Charles lips as black smoke left through the pores of his skin.

One minute, he was close to getting me, and the next, he was laying lifeless on the palace's floor.

"Charles?" I whispered quietly, almost in a frightened tone.

Did I hurt him? I wondered as I reached towards his body that was a few feet away from mine.

"Bethy, stop." Damien said in a pained voice, and my attention was snapped towards his direction.

I didn't realise it, but Damien and five other guards that were standing protectively around me were now thrown in different directions of the ball room.

"Damien?- what happened?" I questioned.

"That blinding light threw us across the room, but DON'T touch Charles, at least for now, we have to make sure that he's safe." Damien explained as he struggled to walk towards me.

"What just happened, bethy?" Damien said as he looked around the ball to the countless of lifeless bodies. Some were lucky, for they escaped before this chaos escalated.

"It's the game, Damien." I replied as my whole body felt too heavy to keep standing.

My once heavy legs felt lifeless as my body dropped to the group.

I guess I didn't realise it, but that light took a toll on me.
