"Batuk, what happened?" Bondita inquired as Anirudh and Bondita dashed downstairs.
In the living room, there stood an enraged Batuk — his face red in anger.
"What is this noise at this time? Sab ke sab nalayak hai!" Trilochan grumbled, coming with his stick clicking on the floor.
Mala and Barsha also got down, followed by Keth and Chameli. Som didn't come downstairs because he was sleeping — he was habituated with the regular drama, so it didn't even bother his sleep. He just got too tired from studying. Even Koyeli came hearing Batuk holler, but the one person he called wasn't in the hall.
"BIHARI!" Batuk ignored everyone else and called once again.
Chameli jumped in fear at the tone. She never expected Batuk could yell so aloud — just like Anirudh.
Anirudh walked toward Batuk and placed a hand over his shoulder. "Batuk, will you tell us what happened?"
"Exactly," Bondita spoke up again. "Bhari babu caught a fever after returning from the market. So Som gave him some medicine. He is sleeping right now as he needs rest."
Batuk glanced at Bondita and asked sharply, "Boudi, who cleaned my room today?"
Chameli felt color draining from her face at that. Did Batuk not like the way she organized everything? But... she did everything as neatly as possible.
Bondita furrowed her brows in confusion. "Your room is cleaned? How? I didn't have the time today and Bhari babu —"
"I did tell Bihari to clean the room," Trilochan interrupted. "But Bahu is right. Bihari got sick so... Koyeli, did you clean Batuk's room?"
Koyeli's eyes grew as wide as saucers. She shook her head instantly in fear. "Nahi, nahi, Malik. I can never step inside Batuk Malik's room without Bahuraniji."
"It's okay, Koyeli," Anirudh said calmly and turned to Batuk. "What happened, Batuk? Can't you find something important? Do you want us to look for it?"
"Yes," Keth chimed in. "We can help. Why are you creating unnecessary havoc?"
"No, Dada. It's not about that!" Batuk let out a frustrated sigh. "Everything is messed up. Nothing is in its place. The assignments I left, someone organized it without my permission. Even my notes! I know Boudi can't do that because she knows I hate it. And even if she does it, she asks for my permission before. So I thought Bihari did this."
"But Bhari— I mean, Bihari didn't," Trilochan said confidently.
"Then who did?" Keth mumbled.
Anirudh and Bondita both glanced at Mala and Chameli — the two of them were awfully quiet. Just by sparing one glance at them, the barrister couple already guessed it had to be one of them.
"Mala... Chameli... did any one of you do this?" Anirudh inquired and all eyes went on them.
Chameli already had tears in her eyes while Mala took a step back. Lowering her gaze, she said, "I didn't do this. I was making food in the kitchen. Badi patni went to clean Batuk's room as Bihari was out."
Keth marched toward Chameli, his nose flaring in anger hearing that. "Chameli, did you clean Batuk's room?"
Chameli couldn't form any words. Tears started rolling down from her eyes as she gulped, not being able to meet her husband's gaze.
"ANSWER ME!" Keth yelled at her, making her tremble in fear.
Bondita instantly went to her side and held her by her shoulder. "Keth Dada, please."
