Friday

[]

Violet rocked on her heels anxiously as she watched the coffee pot fill underneath the machine pouring it. She chewed her lips, picking at her fingernails again. It couldn't seem to pour fast enough. The office lounge was usually busy during the early mornings, but today it was a little slower. Violet was alone this time.

That was until Lucious walked in and checked his watch. Violet was surprised by his presence, assuming that him checking his watch indicated that he was becoming impatient with her. He had never walked in while she was present. "I-it's almost done, Sir. I'm very sorry." She said in a hesitant voice. He stopped walking, then staring at her in confusion. "Sorry?" He asked.

"The...coffee...?" She asked. "Oh...! Oh, don't worry about that today, Violet. I had some before I came to work today. So, there's no rush. Just take it. Plus, most of the time I'll get it myself, remember? You're my coffee backup." He said, giving a friendly smile. "Right..." Violet said, looking down at the coffee maker and shutting her eyes tightly as if she was frustrated with herself for confronting him with her frantic behavior over something he didn't even want.

He noticed this, then clearing his throat awkwardly. "Hey, you know, sometimes I mix the vanilla and the hazelnut creamer together. It's not the best choice, but the taste is worth it." He said. He then brushed by her and taking a green apple out of the assorted basket on the counter. Violet watched him as he rinsed it off in the sink, then walking towards the door.

"By the way, there's a meeting in twenty minutes..." He said, then heading out. The coffee maker finally stopped, and she took the cup off, and began to place her preferred amounts of sugar or cream into it. She looked at the hazelnut and vanilla.

The meeting room was filled with bustling voices of employees, talking amongst themselves about their opinions on the CEO. Violet filed inside, standing in the corner of the room near the doorway. She could hear the conversation happening between two coworkers sitting at the table clearly.

"Get a load of this asshole, man. He got in here Friday and wants to just now introduce himself to us?" Said one man. "I can tell he's full of himself. Came late on the first day but urges the rest of us to be on time." Said the second man. "Do you think he's going to try to completely change everything up?" Asked the first man. "I be damned if he tries to." Said the second man.

Violet held her laptop tightly to her chest. She was always the notetaker for the meetings as the CEO's assistant. This way, the employees would all be sent an email with important recaps of the meeting.

Mr. Lyon had brushed by her in the middle of her listening in on the conversation going on between the two men. She tensed up, then opening her laptop immediately. The room fell with a deafening silence that was automatic.

Lucious sat his briefcase on the table, then leaning over it and resting by his palms flat. "Good morning, everyone. First off, I'd like to formally introduce myself to all of you present in this room. My name is Lucious Lyon, and I have been chosen to permanently take over the position of Mr. West. I know that this may be a little late for an introduction, but I have also been spending my time not only trying to adjust to this new place and position but also develop a plan for my reformation of the company." Said Mr. Lyon.
